no transactions are censored. there have been few problems where transactions fail tho recently. this will be fixed probably with next Zcashd update soon.

other stuff im not smart enough to comment on.

The trusted set up ceremony you are referring to was for the original sprout protocol which is currently deprecated. The second one was called powers of Tao and included well over a 100 participants. It was amazing and is the basis for most all ethereum trusted setups nowadays, it’s totally cool if they do it. We currently use orchard which has no trusted setup.
The only transactions that we actively censor are ones that do not pay the proper tx fee.

No, that’s not correct.

The original ceremony with 6 participants only applies to the Sprout pools ZEC. If an attacker had been able to get all 6 parts of the key they would have been able to forge a “proof” ie: they would have been able to forge fake ZEC. They would not have been able to take your ZEC.

But since only one of the participants had to destroy their part of the key, then it is no longer possible to reconstruct the entire key and you cannot forge ZEC.

An important point is that this only applied to values in the Sprout pool. The Sapling pool used a new ceremony with nearly 200 participants, and later Orchard (HALO 2) removed the need for a ceremony at all with it’s trustless setup.

ECC also implemented a check for the total amount of ZEC sitting in the Sprout pool so that Nodes will reject any transaction that would cause the Sprout pool to go negative. Meaning that even if someone had gotten a complete key (extremely unlikely) then they would not be able to inflate the total number of ZEC beyond 21M, or beyond the amount sitting in the Sprout pool.

The key takeaway is the first ceremony and the inflation bug had nothing to do with the privacy of transactions or stealing funds. With either situation the privacy of transactions and your ZEC holdings are preserved . It’s still impossible for an attacker to steal your funds without getting your private key.

Z-addresses and U-addresses cannot be sanctioned or censored because they never appear on the blockchain ! Only if you choose to show someone your Z or U address do people know it. Check any block explorer and you will not see a Z or U address anywhere.

As @zerodartz and @Autotunafish mentioned, there has been some network spam lately that has caused transactions to not go through if they have a fee set incorrectly. It’s not selective censoring, it’s spam.

thanks for the detailed reply.
ok , assume i am a gay right activist in a censoring country , and they know my z-address and they are able to control all zcash nodes, all of them (theoritically), can they censor donations made to my z-address ? can the nodes see the z-address sending the money or the one recieving the money and then block it ?
recently using ywallet app a couple of my shielded transactions failed - especially where i send the whole amount with fee included - , how can i know the right fee to use to be able to send these transactions without fail , for example on the polygon network there is a fee tracker that tells me what the current fee prices are , is there something similar for zcash ?

No, shielded z address never appear on chain so its indeterminable that its the recipient just from the raw block data.

Ywallet will automatically determine the fee. In the settings (top right), in the Zcash tab there’s an option for’ Automatic fee’. Assuming that it is set, then the transaction may be failing for other reasons.

Zcash fees are set based upon the number of inputs and outputs the transaction incurs. Sometimes we refer to them as actions. Basically a charge for computational weight, it equals 0.00005 per action, with a minimum total fee of 0.0001.

Hi friends I am new I need someone to guide me on how to start mining zcash from opening account to the tail end.

Thanks I anticipate your kind responses.

“Opening an account” sounds like you may be referring to renting hashing power. Otherwise, Zcash is asic secured and so you would need to either rent (like mentioned) or acquire your own. Here is a video by a ZF engineer who does it at home with an incredible setup. Zcash Mining

Hi, i have a transaction which does not confirm since three days.

The transaction was sent by a swapping service, so i have no control over it.

What can i do in this case?

The swapping service tells me it is a “problem of the zcash blockchain and that such cases happen with the ZEC coin, such is their specificity”

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have the transaction ID?

yes i have one, but in the meantime the transactions confirmed,
one after 3 days, one after 2 days.

Does that happen often in zcash? My guess was that they paid a fee to low for the transaction to be included in a block.

What tool do you use as a block explorer and fee estimator normally?

Thank you

What is strange to me it that the block explorer shows 3566 confirmations now but showed unconfirmed just 3 hours ago. Do you know how that happens?

Which block explorer are you using? Some are better than others.

It may be possible that whatever wallet you used is not syncd and does not show the correct balance, since the txs have been confirmed many thousands of times.
Zcash now enforces zip 317 fee structuring which, in a nutshell, comes to 0.00005 for each input or output, for whichever you have more of i.e. inputs or outputs (I forget about that part too smtimes). The popular shielded wallets will support auto fee calculation, which is nifty.
The base minimum fee for all txs is 0.0001, which pays for a great many of txs because it represents the most basic kinds of combining up to 2 input notes and 2 outputs, usually the intended receiver and a possible change address for any difference.

i used blockchair, which one do you recommend?

Blockchair is usually pretty good for me.
