Sad day for zcash

This has been known for months, nothing new.

ZCASH is dying :frowning:

The opposite is true. Zcash is undergoing its own renaissance in the last few months. And it’s great.

@joshs we then need to fix the website pointing to a defunct block explorer

This is an example where a monorepo (or at least a metarepo with all relevant code linked in) would shine. Fix everything everywhere with one atomic changeset, deploy and move on.

It was the best explorer for Zcash, but I am confident that once the transition to the Zebra node is made, new ones will be born that are up to zcashblockexplorer.

In fact, I don’t think it was the best resource. Imho the best explorer for Zcash at the moment is Zcash explorer — 3xpl

The only thing https://www.zcashblockexplorer.com/ excels at is browsing of view keys.

That said, the reasons for closure are purely operational, impossible at current prices.
Here is the source code (GitHub - nighthawk-apps/zcash-explorer: Zcash Block Explorer) and anyone who has a 24/7 server can run a fork of this guide.

Honestly, I see some lacks in 3xpl, it is not easy to distinguish transparent transactions from shielded transactions, it is not easy to find the amount of shielded pools, their API is incomplete and not completely free. Yes, it is still much better than other explorers we can find but I don’t think it is at the level of zcashblockexplorer.

I will try to fork ZBE because I need an API with shielded pool values, but I don’t currently have enough skills so I don’t know if I will be able to do it. Also I understand that I need to run a zcashd node, instead I am currently running Zebra :fearful:
