Thanks for getting me started

Set up miner a few days ago. Still need to work out a few kinks.

The progress I’ve made so far has been due in large part to posts by @Shawn @daira and others on this forum.

What I’ve learned:
The launch should be late September(?)
Don’t go all out on hardware.
Mine with what you’ve got(cpu not gpu due to memory hard problems)
There will be a slow start to mining (1st block = 1 ZEC increasing slowly to 50 ZEC every 10 minutes (which may be 4 blocks) …)

next steps:
Review Home · zcash/zcash Wiki · GitHub
Mine coins - After hours of mining I’m getting 0 balance even though i’ve modified config file to read genproclimit=8 and system monitor shows all cores at 100%
So grateful I have more than a month to figure things out and prepare.

Thanks again,

Shawn

I’m glad you enjoyed the tutorials. I plan on updating them to include spending/sending/receiving as we get closer to launch.
Just yesterday Zooko updated the Github Milestones with a date of October 27 for launch, though it may still slip it gives you a little more time to play around with settings.
Also don’t worry about not finding a block yet, in light of the recent DoS attacks. The next version z9 will hopefully have some patches to mitigate the problem.

The number of ZEC (?) given per block will be the block number times 0.0005 until it reaches 10 per block (to public, 2.5 to founders) after 34 days. At the end of the first day 0.288 ZEC will given per block. There are 24 blocks per hour, 1 every 2.5 minutes, which has a small possibility of changing.

… another post that helped me out for a separate issue prior to DoS concern:
