YWallet technical support

Which Linux distribution do you recommend I use on ywallet?

I think ubuntu 22 should work.

I still face the same problem, I did everything, I already installed Ubuntu, Fedora, …

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, the latest versions of Ywallet don’t work for me.

Most distribs have upgraded their versions of the system libraries. That means that old apps need to be recompiled. You could try zkool as it is built on a recent toolchain.

Is zkool stable? Can I use it in a wallet with a large amount of Zec? Is it possible to recover the ywallet wallet?

As long as you have a backup of the seed phrase, I don’t see why not. But as always, , the author is not responsible for any loss of funds caused by the usage of .

I can’t withdraw zcash from ledger, I heard that you can use YWallet, you need to use 24 Ced phrases, if I do that, I can send coins to the Binance exchange or maybe there is a better option not to use Sid phrases

Ywallet and Zkool will support importing the Ledger seed and sending from there. You used to be able to use Ledger with Ywallet a few years back but it does not still have that functionality. However, Zkool will add that support in an upcoming release.

Somehow it is possible to withdraw coins now from Ledger??

Maybe I should try through zecwallet??

In your post, you mentioned that you are unable to withdraw Zcash from ledger. Is there some reason why? are they stuck?

And no on zecwallet, its defunct (toast).

The ledger functionality from ywallet was with a proprietary ledger app (the app you load on the hardware wallet) that unfortunately didn’t make it to their store (for mostly political reasons). Therefore, it was dropped from Ywallet since it wouldn’t be right to ask users to install unsigned firmware.

On the contrary, Zkool uses the official ledger app that you can find on their store via Ledger Live (developed by Zondax). It supports transparent and shielded zcash but it has some limitations:

  • only Sapling, NO ORCHARD :sob:
  • up to 5 inputs/outputs of each type :expressionless_face:
  • it’s a real pain to integrate (ARGHHHHGH :scream: )
  • it’s not compatible with Ledger Live :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

On the good side,

  • it works and is another solution for shielded hardware wallets
  • Ledger devices are popular :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

At this point, Zkool supports the shielded part only. I will include support for transparent in a later release.

You are an excellent programmer, I’m looking forward to seeing the final version of zkool. I have a question: am I at great risk by using the old Ywallet version 1.5? I can’t use the latest versions, I’m afraid there is a vulnerability because it is an old version. What should I do? Should I use another wallet until zkool is 100%?

There will be no final version of zkool (until I drop it) like there is no final version of zashi.

Is using version 1.5 of ywallet dangerous? Can I keep using it? Is there any vulnerability that makes a version higher than 1.5 recommended?

there are no security fixes made so you can keep that version as long as it works
