I was doing some Ad Hoc (aka unrequested 
) Review of a Zashi PR -the code was awesome btw- and I notice some branding in the About section that translates “Shielded” as “Protegido” which means “protected” in Spanish. Other wallets like Zingo use the term “Blindado” which is a translation for something that has a protection layer which makes it more resistant.
Protected, can be… protected by a “Stamp of a Saint” if you are a believer, or protected by a custodian… if you believe that custodians protect you.
I’ve tried to advocate for some common UI guidelines in the past but the idea didn’t quite catch. I assume these problems arise with every language we translate to. When it came to transalations of La Divina Comedia of Dante Alighieri, people from Firenze used to say “Traduttore Traditore” which is a rhyme to say that translators are traitors (in the sense that they can misrepresent you and get you in trouble).
I think that language is the most definite way conceptualization and it’s important to be unambiguous with terms that are very important to our project. As ZEC becomes more and more popular as I think it will be, these ambiguities will be a problem for our users.
If we can set up a glossary and i18n guideline that all application developers could use, our future selves will be very grateful of us. And our users will too.
We need moar eyes/translators for sure. “Communication breakdown” is a huge issue facing the world at large.
