We closed new partnerships aimed at promoting education for children and schools.
We created t-shirts and distributed them to new members, including lawyers.
@michae2xl compiled documents outlining the history of Zcash to provide to lawyers as requested.
@michae2xl produced various artworks and activities on X, which received significant engagement.
@michae2xl is actively involved in various activities and networking in Brazil, consistently promoting Zcash and building respectful relationships within the ecosystem.

Objective: Continuously improve user experience, operational transparency and security of the community faucet.

Dashboard Launch
- Rolled out a new analytics dashboard at zecfaucet.com/dashboard, providing real-time insights into faucet activity.

ZecFaucet Partnership & Coupon System Prototype

Collaborated with Vitor Pio (Privacy Map) to pilot variable‐payout coupons.

Designed and implemented a coupon engine to issue targeted high-value claims for social campaigns and possible influencer promotions. Hopefully generating engagement and community growth through promotions.

Faucet Security & Fraud Prevention

Objective: Fortify faucet against automated abuse without compromising legitimate user flow.

Proof-of-Work Hardening
- Continued tuning of the existing PoW challenge to throttle high-frequency claim attempts.
- Detected residual scripted claims; analyzed IP and timing patterns for refinement.
- Deployed Google reCAPTCHA v3 atop PoW checks, leveraging invisible risk‐scoring to block suspicious sessions.

Infrastructure & Maintenance

Objective: Ensure 24/7 service reliability across all supporting systems.

Performed minor maintenance on bots and services.
Confirmed all instances (Lightsail, EC2) are updated to latest security patches.

FROST-GUI Demo Progress

Objective: Deliver a user-friendly GUI demonstration for the Zcash FROST threshold-signature protocol.

Current Status: Development pace slowed due to integration challenges.

Roadblocks Identified:
- Tauri is incompatible with the frost-client bindings, which makes a direct integration between them difficult.

If we’re unable to successfully implement the remaining FROST-GUI code, James will reach out to ECC engineers for assistance, since we know they’re all willing to help.

Discord

Zcash Global maintains bridges that connect multiple Discord servers and channels. This month, I helped Vito troubleshoot and restore a broken bridge between the ECC server and the Zcash Global server. The bridge is now working as expected.

ZecFaucet

General Fixes

Continued working on bug fixes and general maintenance.

GetIpIntel Temporary Block

ZecFaucet relies on the free GetIpIntel service to help detect VPN usage and reduce abuse. In June, the service temporarily blocked our access due to an unusual spike in traffic. I contacted the service admin and successfully restored access.

Critical Challenge Abuse Bug

Identified and patched a serious vulnerability in the challenge-response system:
Users were able to request a challenge, solve it, and then—without closing the modal—open new browser tabs and reuse the same wallet address to request additional challenges. This could be done repeatedly for up to 3 minutes (the challenge validity period), enabling multiple claims. The bug has been fixed and behavior is now as expected.

ZcashMetro

https://ZcashMetro.io stopped showing new transactions in the scene. After investigating, I discovered that the issue stemmed from a change in Zcash’s lightwalletd RPC behavior—specifically in the GetTransaction method. Previously, unmined transactions had a value of -1, but this was changed to 0.

The issue is being tracked here: librustzcash issue #1484

A simple code update in ZcashMetro resolved the problem.

zingolib-wrapper for Node.js

Updated the zingolib-wrapper to support zingolib version 1.11.1 (stable release).

Projects depending on the wrapper can now benefit from the latest stable improvements.

E-ZEC June Report

In June, Zcash Brazil saw a significant boost in community engagement. We hosted multiple online meetups packed with interaction, knowledge-sharing, and onboarding sessions. Our main focus was expanding the community and making sure new members were successfully integrated into the local Zcash ecosystem.

We are thrilled to announce that we have achieved our 8 milestone of 2025.

We have been carrying out work with a strong emphasis on quality and consistency, operating across several fronts in Brazil. Our members, from different states, value privacy and have been supporting us in this mission. Our focus has been on topics such as self-custody, DEX, and education through Zashi.

NOTES:

I would also like to point out that much of the work happening in Brazil has not been included in the global community summaries. While this is not something we are overly concerned about, it is important to stress that there cannot be divisions, after all, Zcash is one. Community members must come together, not drift apart.
Too often, we see actions that seem designed only to give the impression of work being done, but in reality, they distract from what truly matters. For this reason, I call for attention, and above all, unity across communities. After all, when the circumstances were different, only a few were truly standing on the front lines of this battle.

Highligths

Many of our activities in August were shared on Instagram, through stories and posts, as well as through in-person meetings. Those who followed along could clearly see the dedication and excellent work being done.

At Blockchain Rio 2025, the largest crypto event in Brazil, our team and community members were present. We conducted several interviews, organized local activities, distributed giveaways, and delivered 50 ZecFaucet coupons. In addition, we raffled a Ledger during the event.

Here we are at our 3rd Blockchain Rio!

It’s always great to participate in in-person events; we truly felt the heat of the moment! We could sense, especially from those who have been in the crypto market longer, the need for a return to cypherpunk concepts and the urgency for privacy.
We were able to reconnect with friends we’d made in previous editions and added a ton of new ones. We had countless heated discussions about privacy, freedom, rights, regulation, the current situation in Brazil…

We adopted a really cool interview format! AAmandita was our Privacy Reporter and conducted the interviews, which can be viewed on YouTube Shorts and posted on X. It’s a learning experience and a privilege to be able to experience the entire process—recording, editing, and dissemination.

We spoke at booths of projects using ZKP and saw that the issue of privacy is in vogue, but no one knew which protocol was the first to implement it or who Sean Bowe was (:p).
Ultimately, our work isn’t just about adopting Zcash; its history and its Dreamteam of developers are also important, because it’s very pioneering and started as a Bitcoin fork.

We created some new giveaways and others already known at events.

We personally met MLC_SAP, a very active member of the Brazilian community. We also met pac_mcz that day, who literally jumped on board and helped us a lot at the event, joined the community, and even completed a task on Dework.

We ran the ledger giveaway and distributed a card with the giveaway rules.
We ran the Zashi giveaway in conjunction with the Zecfaucet Coupon (another of James’s amazing creations), which was limited to 50 orders for the event, worth USD $2 in ZEC, so users could experience the wallet for the first time as soon as they installed it. It was a two-day event totaling almost 20 hours of standing, practically only sitting down for lunch, but it was totally worth it, and we’re excited to see what new things we’ll bring to the next one.

Zingolib-Wrapper

Rewritten using nj-cli
- The wrapper was fully rewritten to use nj-cli. Expensive calls can now be executed asynchronously, preventing them from blocking the main Node.js thread.
Upstream dependency issues
- While updating to zingolib 2.0.2, a few compatibility issues with Nu6.1 still remain. These will need to be resolved upstream.

ZecFaucet

Transparent address support on testnet
- Users requested support for legacy transparent addresses (t-addresses) on the testnet faucet. (The testnet faucet is currently offline because Nu6.1 has activated on testnet, and zingolib has not yet updated its zcash-protocol crate.)
Upgrade to zingolib 2.0.2
- ZecFaucet was updated to use zingolib 2.0.2 via the rewritten zingolib-wrapper.
Balance reservation:
- The faucet now reserves a balance for coupon redemptions, ensuring that the faucet balance cannot be drained by normal claims.
Anti-fraud mechanisms:
- Two new measures were added to reduce automated and fraudulent claims:
  - A sliding puzzle captcha.
  - A global cooldown window, during which the faucet temporarily refuses new claims after heavy usage.

Infrastructure & Community Tools

BTC-Pay Server with Zcash support
- Installed and tested BTC-Pay Server configured for Zcash payments. A deployment was successfully set up for Zcash Brasil. Plans are in place for a future tutorial or workshop to help others integrate BTC-Pay with Zcash.
Zcash Vote Server
- With guidance from @dismad, we successfully configured and deployed the server after a full day of work. It’s a pleasure to contribute by running a piece of the core infrastructure required for the coin holders poll to take place.

Yes, I’ve noticed some irrelevant content in the weekly digest, which impacts Zcash Shielded News. For example, the last digest referred to “Zcash Shielded News 40,” while we’re already at 45 (5 weeks ahead).

After the coin holders’ poll was closed, I assisted with an independent audit of the results. My audit confirmed that all results matched the official publication.
Supported a Brazilian community member participating in the ZecHub hackathon. Their project leverages the new zcash-walletd library to use Zcash shielded memos.

Development Work

zcash-walletd

Started a new project: zcash-walletd

Originally forked from Hanh’s GitHub, the code was generalized into a reusable library.
Created Node.js bindings, enabling developers to use it as a view-only Zcash wallet.
This foundation will be useful for future projects.

Testnet Faucet & Nu6.1

With ZecHub’s hackathon ongoing, many participants requested testnet tokens. I implemented a temporary hotfix for the faucet so users could continue testing their projects.
Update: Shortly after my hotfix, Zingolabs released a proper Zingolib version with Nu6.1 support. Both zingolib-wrapper and zecfaucet were upgraded accordingly.

Closing Notes

This month was focused on upgrades and community support, ensuring tools and infrastructure remained available for ongoing projects and hackathon participants.

Highligths

October marked a dynamic month for Zcash Brazil, with a strong focus on community engagement, education, and partnerships that amplified Zcash’s emphasis on financial privacy and individual sovereignty.

Key highlights included hosting multiple Zebra Talks on topics like Web3 communities, career opportunities, risk management, and decentralizing law, launching the Shielded Album “Zcash Vibe” - Song, celebrating Zcash’s 9th anniversary with community calls, giveaways, and retrospectives, and reaching 2,070+ followers on X, with so many shorts, videos across our platforms.

In-person events, such as those at Tech Venture Law Summit and HackTudo, along with virtual sessions like ZCine movie nights, quizzes, and Privacy Hour podcasts, fostered deeper connections and awareness. Partnerships with entities like Modular Crypto, Nym Brazil, CastaCrypto, OffChain Brazil, and talks for next week with Pinic (Brazil’s largest crypto card provider) strengthened Zcash’s ecosystem.

The impact in Brazil was significant: through translated content (e.g., Shielded News, tutorials, memes, and threads on privacy in Layer 1, Zcash Brazil educated so many on crypto privacy, countered misinformation on topics like inflation and AI’s role in employment, and promoted shielded transactions amid rising ZEC appreciation.

This work advanced Zcash’s mission, building a vibrant Portuguese-speaking community, encouraging adoption via tools like Zashi, etc.

All hosting and API key payments are up to date.
Even though AWS had some downtime this month, none of our services were affected.

Zcash Metro

This month brought several improvements and bug fixes to https://zcashmetro.io.

Improved zebra positioning and logic: trains now only leave the station when all zebras are aboard.
Added random walk behavior to zebras, making the visuals more dynamic and fun.
Unfortunately, the “zebras jumping onto the tracks” bug seems to have returned. More fixes are on the way.
Some new bugs appeared (like trains not leaving at all), but they’re being tracked and patched gradually.

Bots and Automation

Added and tested new commands for the ZecStats Discord bot, making it easier for users to access stats directly from the server.
Built new anti-spam features for the Telegram captcha bot, including:
- Simple blacklist system
- Automatic kick for blacklisted usernames

These small improvements are helping to keep the community cleaner and safer.

ZecFaucet

The faucet has been under heavy load lately due to the recent increase in ZEC price.
Several anti-scam measures were tested to prevent automated or fraudulent claims.
An efficient, permanent solution is still under research.

Update: ZecFaucet is temporarily open only for coupon holders while testing continues.

Tools and Contributions

Released a new recovery tool for ZecWallet Lite users:

I’m happy to report that it has already helped at least one user recover their funds — a great outcome.

Dizzy Bot (Discord)

During big events like Zcash’s 9th birthday, Dizzy handled a high volume of transactions, revealing some rare bugs where a few withdrawals failed.
Spent time debugging and ensuring all users eventually received their ZEC. Everything is now stable again.

Ongoing and New Projects

Began working on a new (secret for now) project — more details to come soon.
zVolunteered once again to run a Vote Authority server, continuing to support Zcash governance infrastructure.

Unstoppable Private Money - The Shielded Album is a project we’ve been thinking about for a while because we felt the need for music for video editing, and we thought: why keep using generic music when we can create music for Zcash? We created 5 songs that talk about the “Zcash World”.
The lyrics and melodies were conceived by the design team and generated by AI, designed to be very catchy. We decided to make them in English because it is a globally used and more accessible language. They can be used by anyone who wants to make good use of them. We’ll release 1 per week, the first was on Zcash Birthday!

Highligths

In November 2025, Zcash Brazil expanded partnerships with Ledger and NYM for secure hardware and privacy tools, Rafaelando and Modular Crypto for creative content, and Offchain Brazil, plus usePicnicBR for off-chain and adoption talks. Key collaborators like Camila Nikolaus (DeFi/Web3), Casta Crypto (autonomy), and P2P dot me (KYC-free txs) joined Zebra Talks and events, boosting Zcash’s reach and vibrancy in Latin America. In-person event in ETH LATAM with a great network, soon news talks.

Zcash Brazil worked on solid basics and new tools. We launched ZecStats.info for simple network checks. We added API and Discord auto-help to ZecFaucet for fast user coupons. We also got the Zcash Vote Server running smoothly. James fixed odd mempool issues in Dizzy, ZcashMetro, and ZecFaucet. He switched services to stable Zingolib 2.0.9. Plus, we set up a new self-run Lightwalletd + Zebrad system in Brazil. This gives better local control and safety.

The Zebra Pi project was a big hit. It’s a cute, plug-and-play Raspberry Pi full node. It comes in a Zebra plush toy bag. This mixes hardware fun with a simple setup. It helps the community get hands-on with the network. These steps, along with giveaways, Zebra Talks with partners, and easy onboarding, made Zcash stronger in Brazil. It turns tech into daily joy and builds a close Latin America group.

Creative ideas lit up the month with the first Shielded Album. It dropped five tracks, like “9 Years of Privacy” and “Intent to Connect” with NEAR. Each has videos, lyrics, and art that blend music with Zcash privacy stories. This draws in fans and new users. ZONA Z episodes are easy talks on topics like privacy fears, DeFi for women, and daily choices. They include cool visuals and guest chats. We shared them on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok to make big ideas feel fun and close, plus intern calls ZEC Insider.

These actions built a tougher Zcash system in Brazil. They grew the community with giveaways, partner Zebra Talks, and smooth onboarding. They turned tech into art that shares privacy love. Now, Zcash feels like home for Latin America users.

November was a packed month filled with infrastructure upgrades, new launches, and a few unexpected challenges across the Zcash ecosystem. Here’s a summary of everything delivered.

New Launches & Major Deliveries

ZecStats.info – New Live Zcash Dashboard

This month we developed, registered a new domain, and launched https://zecstats.info, a clean and fast website dedicated to real-time Zcash network stats.
It’s now part of our growing ecosystem of tools that help the community visualize the network’s health in a friendly way.

ZecFaucet – API Integration + New Automation

ZecFaucet received a significant upgrade with a brand-new API layer.
We’ve begun integrating it with Dizzy, our micropayments Discord bot:

Users will be able to request coupons directly from Discord.
Completely automated — no human action needed.
One coupon per user per 24 hours.

This is a big leap towards making ZecFaucet a fully service-integrated platform.

Zcash Vote Server – Up and Running

After many days and nights of work, we finally managed to deploy and run a Zcash vote server.

Mempool Issues & Service Resilience

The Zcash mempool behaved weirdly this month, causing disruptions in several of our services. Here’s what was affected and fixed:

Dizzy (Micropayments Bot)

Withdrawals temporarily protected behind a password.
Monitoring and user support provided.
Issue fixed — withdrawals are now functioning normally again.

ZcashMetro

Hundreds of “ghost” transactions appeared due to n_expiry_height = 0 transactions.
Implemented a fix to ignore non-expiring transactions.
Service stabilized.

ZecFaucet

Minor adjustments to keep it stable under the unusual mempool conditions.

Migration to Zingolib 2.0.9

Work started to port our services to the stable 2.0.9 release.
zingolibwrapper updated accordingly.

New Infrastructure: Zcash Lightwalletd + Zebrad

We built a brand-new Zcash infrastructure stack, including:

Fresh domain registration.
Dedicated Zebrad + Lightwalletd deployment.
Syncing began on 11/14/2025.

This gives us our own fully independent ecosystem for future products and services.

New Project: Zebra Pi – Plug-and-Play Full Node

One of the most fun and creative projects we’ve ever done:

Designed a Raspberry Pi–based “plug-and-play” Zcash full node.
Built custom RPi images for 1-click flashing and immediate configuration.
Created a physical product:
A Zebra plush toy carrying a bag, and inside the bag we placed:
- a Raspberry Pi
- a full SSD
- running a full Zebra node

Project announcement and community discussion:

We named the device Zebra Pi — the first “cute-node-as-infrastructure” solution for Zcash.

Highligths

The year 2025 delivered exceptional results, surpassing all expectations. The team’s strong commitment, which resulted in new partnerships and enabled us to overcome numerous challenges while achieving key objectives. Privacy has emerged as a critical issue in the market, and it demands our full attention moving forward. We are prepared for an even more intense global effort in 2026.

I believe our greatest achievement was, once again, arriving in December and receiving another vote of confidence, as our proposal was approved to continue through 2026. I would like to express my gratitude for the approval of the proposal.

James Katz Dev December Report

This month was quieter in terms of feature delivery, but important groundwork and maintenance work continued across infrastructure and ongoing projects. With the year coming to an end, much of the focus naturally shifted toward stability, review, and planning for a stronger start in 2026.

Infrastructure & Operations

Infrastructure stability:
- All core infrastructure remains online and stable, including 4 AWS Lightsail instances and 1 EC2 instance, with billing fully up to date.
API services:
- OpenAI and xAI API keys are active and paid, ensuring uninterrupted access for dependent services.
Zcash infrastructure:
- zebrad and lightwalletd continue to run 24/7 without issues at infra.zcashbr.com, providing a reliable backbone for Zcash-related services.

Development & Maintenance

Dizzy – Faucet command:
- A new faucet command was launched but surfaced issues shortly after release, likely related to API behavior.
  During investigation, a bug was identified where multiple incoming transactions sharing the same txid were not being registered correctly.
  A fix has been implemented at code level, adjusting the deposit-check logic to iterate over each received note within the same txid.
  This fix is not yet tested or deployed and will be validated in the next cycle.

LiveZEC:

Work continued on a basic demo of LiveZEC, the live-streaming donations platform. The project is still in an early, unfinished state and will require further development moving forward.

ZebraPi OS image:

Custom ZebraPi OS images were successfully built; however, the resulting images did not function as expected in practice.
Additional debugging and testing are required, and changes still need to be pushed to a dedicated GitHub repository.

ZECA (ZecHub Hackathon project):

Initial planning resumed for officially implementing ZECA on the Zcash Discord server.
The intended design involves a dedicated channel where users can scan a QR code, send shielded Zcash transactions, and have memo contents replicated by a bot.
This feature has not yet been implemented and remains in the planning phase.

Improvements & Fixes

ZecFaucet UX improvement:
A small but important usability fix was deployed.
When the faucet is closed for coupon holders, the claim amount and address input field are now hidden, preventing user confusion.
This was the main change fully completed and shipped during the month.

Closing Notes

Overall, this was a slower month in terms of visible output, largely due to the end-of-year period. The focus leaned more toward maintenance, issue discovery, and planning, rather than shipping major new features. Several initiatives are partially complete and positioned to move forward, with the intention of starting 2026 with clearer direction and renewed momentum.

Papai Zoel arrived at the Zcash Brazil server, distributing tips among the community, those who have always been with us throughout the Zcash Brazil journey and, like us, never gave up.

Monthly Community Activities

This month was very busy with several initiatives for the community, marked by continuous growth of users and people interested in Zcash technology.

We onboarded new members full-time into the community, keeping them updated and prepared to actively participate and engage with the project through our weekly activities!

We joined forces as a team and organized some exciting giveaways for the community.
This was our way of showing appreciation to those who are always with us—participating, growing, and giving strength to our ecosystem!

Zcash Brazil Community Call + Meteora AMA

As usual, we hosted our weekly community call to share updates across the ecosystem.
This week, we had a special presentation on how to operate ZEC on the Meteora DEX within the Solana network, and how to transform it into shielded ZEC via NEAR Intents.
