Zcash for Venezuela! 🇻🇪💛

The Zcash en Español community has launched Z-Aid for Venezuela, a humanitarian donation campaign powered by Zcash and the incredible donation tools provided by CipherPay.

Several community members have already told us they would also like to contribute using other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and USDT, so we’ll be adding those donation options over the coming days.

For maximum transparency, we are using a wallet dedicated exclusively to this campaign and have publicly shared its Viewing Key through Zkool Wallet. This allows us to monitor incoming donations while giving the community greater transparency. We’ll continue posting regular updates here about donations received, campaign improvements, and how the funds are being used.

Venezuela is currently facing an extremely difficult humanitarian situation following the earthquake. Recovery will require time, coordination, and continued support.

Because local conditions remain challenging, the Zcash en Español core team ( @yoditar @AuraBritoSM @Edicksonjga @robmarn and I ) has established direct contact through our own network of trusted friends, volunteers, and community members with families, neighborhood groups, and collection centers located in the hardest-hit areas. Our goal is to deliver food, clean water, medicine, and other essential supplies directly to those communities using the funds raised through this campaign.

The recovery process will likely take weeks, months, and possibly even years. It will be a long road, and every contribution can make a real difference.

We’ll continue sharing updates here about the campaign, donations received, purchases made, and aid delivered.

Just a quick note, the QR code didn’t work for me in YWallet, I had to adjust it manually.

A couple of members of the Zcash Querétaro Club have sent their contributions. The QR code did not work in Zodl and Zingo, so the transfers were sent manually as well.

My best wishes to all Venezuelans; the impact of the earthquakes has been enormous, and aid is needed.

Hello, Zcash community! Venezuela is going through a difficult time following the two earthquakes that struck on Wednesday, June 24.

The experience is traumatic—it changes your life in a matter of seconds. Many Venezuelans have lost their lives (an estimated 10,000 or more), and many homes have been destroyed (an estimated 60,000 or more).

Many refugees need support, but so do rescue workers, doctors, and volunteers.

Thank you to everyone who is sending donations and spreading the word about the campaign! We’re here to answer any questions you may have.

Quick questions regarding the QR code issue:

  • Is the problem that the phone doesnt/cant read the QR ?
  • Or does the phone reads it but the send don’t work?

I’m thinking it’s probably the 1st option, and some phones with lower-quality cameras struggle to resolve the individual modules of the QR.

Deployed a fix and should work now, let me know.

I did two test, with Zingo and ZODL, and work fine!

I think is phone/camera issues.

YWallet read the QR code, could not parse the URI.

Curious what’s working on the ground for first timers. Which wallet handles spotty data best, and where does onboarding lose them?

We’re helping in two ways: first, by assisting those affected by the earthquake, and second, by protecting privacy and showcasing real-world use cases of Zcash.

So far we have raised this amount of money, and members of our community have already contacted those affected directly, to whom we will deliver the first donations of supplies, medicine, clothes, and food.
