Is that version of the software equivalent to v1.0.4 of the Linux version?

A Mac using friend of mine is trying to get started with Zcash with that software. If that’s not the version he should be using, where can he get a better alternative? (Short of running the Linux version in VirtualBox…)

What is the most current Mac version of Zcash?

What I’m most curious about is - Does this version of Zcash still work? Or is it too old to even be trusted?
