What’s the launch plan (when? how? what? etc) of Zebra client. Love to hear via a blog post on how Zebra is going to go live.

I’d like to know if it’s Linux only for now or we can build it on macs/windows?

It compiles fine on macOS (I run the client on my machine).

Zebra dev here. It should run on macs / windows just fine.

As you already saw, our alpha release is planned for the 8th. We haven’t posted blog posts yet because this is very much an alpha release. Zebra’s architecture is mostly filled out but we’re missing most of the validation logic. Right now we only support syncing and storing the block chain and a few critical consensus checks. We do validate proof of work and bitcoin merkle roots, so we shouldn’t diverge from zcashd without expensive work being done to mislead zebra. This alpha release is aimed at establishing our release process, support process, and ironing out bugs in the supporting storage and networking code. Once we start filling out the rest of the validation logic and approaching our first stable release we will be taking the time to blog about zebra’s design extensively, we already have quite a few blog posts planned out.

Do you think there is room for outside developers to contribute to Zebrad? If so what areas specifically do you think they would be most helpful in?

Absolutely! We already have two open source contributors and would love more. It’s hard to say exactly what would be the best area to hop in, but we will happily sit down to figure that out given interest. We already have a lot of issues tagged as open to contributors: Issues · ZcashFoundation/zebra · GitHub, and there are probably plenty of other issues that could be worked on by outside developers with coordination. I recommend checking out our milestones if you want a better idea of upcoming projects (I’d drop a link but discourse wont let me include more than two links in this post): Milestones - ZcashFoundation/zebra · GitHub.

If you or anyone else is interested in contributing definitely drop by our Github / Discord and let us know. We have a weekly sync meeting every Monday at 9pm GMT/1pm PST in our discord that anyone is welcome to join or you can just drop a message in the zebra channel at any time.
