Zkool - The successor to Ywallet

That’s what most wallets do. Compact blocks don’t have memos & tx details, so the full transaction has to be fetched. Ywallet has a setting to disable that, but it is not ported to Zkool yet.

It’s the https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/xdg-user-dirs

This forum is not the appropriate place for posting potential security issues with wallets.

It’s extremely unprofessional to post any security issues on a public forum before contacting the developers directly through appropriate channels so they can push a patch if required.

It’s always been like this and is well documented in the Zcash Wallet Thread Model.

The wallet fetches the memo from lightwalletd separately, which uses more bandwidth, and that is visible even though the connection is encrypted.

Is cold signing still supported on Zkool latest versions? Been trying a couple of times on PCs but I get errors when I try to export the transaction from the viewing key wallet.

The shielded multisig support is probably the most interesting part of Zkool for me

I think this could have some really useful applications for teams communities and organizations managing private funds together

Would be interesting to see more real world examples of how people are using FROST with Zkool

It should work fine. I just tested with the latest version. One thing to make sure: both the cold wallet and watch-only wallet must be the same version.

I did clean reinstalls on both machines. I managed this time to export the Ironwwod transaction from the hot wallet side but when loaded on the cold wallet and trying to sign it it gives me the error “Failed to download/ verify sapling-spend.params…” even if I don’t have any Sapling funds.

Those should be included in the zkool iso which is intended for a cold wallet. It used to be non-persistent and may still be, meaning you have to import your seed every time to sign a tx. Otherwise I assume you’ll probably need to go online and let the wallet download the sapling-params. In the settings, there is a line at the bottom that indicates whether they’re downloaded or not.

You could download them yourself and then transfer via usb or smtg, I’m not sure where they would live. The different distros use different file structures so would need to know which one exactly e.g. appimage, flatpak, exe etc.

I use the standalone zip file. I will have a look around to see where the downloaded parameters could fit.

I didn’t consider that a cold wallet would not be able to download the sapling zk parameters. They used to be bundled with the app. I will put them back in the desktop versions.

I am sorry for being new and having issues with a zkool specifically. Funds are not showing even the receive address is correct and going to block explorer it shows the amount. It is under index 1 (so sec acct) of a seed import. It found the receiving transparent address, but no amt. Ywallet shows, but sending is disallowed now. Thank you.

Hello. Can you help me with my technical problem? I have Ledger Nano S device. I have last successful transaction from transparent address to another transparent address on 15 July 2026. But after latest blockchain update I got error “incorrect consensus branch id (-25) (102)” when sending transaction. Screenshot from “ledgerwallet-logs”:

Because of last Ledger app version (2.4.2) from repository does not include those changes and no new updates available for abandoned Nano S device.
So I decided to import my seed phrase to zkool hot wallet. I created new encrypted database, then “+ New Account” and entered my seed phrase with parameters that you can see on the screenshot below:

First transaction was on 2022-02, so I entered block height “1,500,000”.
Also I selected scan for alternative transparent addresses.
But “Receive funds” tab does not contain any “t-” addresses, only Sapling and Unified. Scanning alternative addresses with Gap Limit = 150 also gives no effect (I have approximately 10 generated addresses for all time.
Sync process took a long time. I interrupted it on ~20% (by exiting app and deleting db file in Documents folder) because of no transaction in history appeared.
Interesting thing is: if uncheck “sap” tab when restore account - then it will be success message, but no account created in fact - there will be this screen again:

What am I doing wrong? How to recover my funds in another wallet? Please help.

There is no way to use the Nano S device with Zcash because they Ledger stopped supporting their app. The device will always sign with the wrong consensus id and the tx will get rejected by the network.

I make another try to send ZEC from Nano S to somewhere. And suddenly it works. So I sell some part by sending on provided transparent addresses and sent the rest to my Exodus wallet (that was created in 2021 and was not used since 2022) - also “t”. Transactions were successful and got confirmations. I don’t know what the exact problem with Ledger is, but I decided to not to take any more risks with this wallet (however Exodus has another risks) and not to wait anymore.

I think that is the best decision
