0 Sol/s How Long Should it Take to Start?

I followed the installation guide for ubuntu, installing from source, here:
https://zcash.readthedocs.io/en/latest/rtd_pages/user_guide.html

I created the configuration file and ran the command .src/zcashd and the program has been running for almost 2 hours, but it’s done nothing. Did I do something wrong?

Welcome to the Forum @talkinggoat !

From your screen shot it appears you have zero connections to the network. Check your internet settings and make sure you don’t have a firewall blocking you.

Once you get connected you can begin the process of downloading the current Blockchain height, this is a big file (20 GB or so) and can take awhile depending on your internet connection.

Only once you have completed the Blockchain download can you begin mining with your CPU. However it’s important to note that mining solo with your CPU will not have much of a chance to earn any Zcash. The Network hashrate is extremely high with many miners so the odds of you finding a block reward with your CPU is extremely low.

If you are serious about mining have a read through https://www.zcashcommunity.com/mining/zcash-mining-hardware/

Your best bet would be to purchase specialized hardware ie: ASIC (which unfortunately is also hard to find at the moment) and join a mining pool which will reward you for contributing to the pools hashpower.
