Anybody else getting this from Kraken Exchange?

Regulatory requirements demand that we maintain up-to-date information about our clients and their account activity. Therefore, we need you to respond to the following questions:

  1. Please confirm the specific source of each recent Zcash deposit (e.g., exchange name, mining pool, OTC transaction, or private wallet).
  2. Please explain the economic purpose of the repeated Zcash deposits and withdrawals on your account.
  3. Please confirm whether all external wallets interacting with your Kraken account are solely owned and controlled by you.
  4. Please provide supporting documentation, such as exchange statements, mining records, or transaction confirmations demonstrating wallet ownership.

We kindly ask that you respond within seven days.

Let us know if you have any questions. We appreciate your cooperation.

Regards,
Hailey

Criminals have been bribing Kraken customer support employees to exfiltrate customer data. This email you’ve received could potentially be from the criminals intending to rob you, rather than from Kraken.

They’ve posted previously about other exchanges doing it as well but yes careful of the emails.

Hmm, I had not considered the connection to the recent news.

I had noticed that the language “Regulatory requirements DEMAND” along with the deadline are much less polite than prior “requests”.

Additionally, the subject line used the spelling “Enquiry” instead of “Inquiry”.

its best to contact the exchange directly from their website in this sort of cases so you can know if the email/ask is real.

Out of curiosity are you mining directly to Kraken? They mention repeating deposits, if so you might consider raising your payout threshold.

Good idea, but I’m not mining.

I posted because this isn’t the first time I’ve received questions from a centralized exchange. On a prior occasion I consulted with an attorney who stated, “yeah everybody is getting those.”

Although I find the questions objectionable in any regard, something about “everybody else” helps a little. It’s possible this round I’m on my own which is troublesome…I’m a law abiding citizen.

I would guess it’s standard overreaching / overzealous KYC/AML from CEX’s.

No worries, all your precious data will be safe with them and anyway you don’t need that many fingers :grimacing:

Question 4 is particularly interesting. I looked through my records on their platform, in which their ledger assigns a distinctly different ID (exchange proprietary?) from the ZEC TXID.

Therefore, I had to rely on my self custody wallet for the ZEC TXIDs (ZEC addresses I generate on their platform “expire”) which I provided to them.

They replied and asked the exact same question 4 again. I replied with the exact same answer again. They replied, “OK we’re good for now.”

I was reminded of the classic Talking Heads, “PsychoKiller”…

“When I have nothing to say, my lips are sealed,

“Say something once? Why say it again?”
