Blockchain syncing

I have been on-boarding some of my friends and family to Zashi and I have noticed that if I ever send zec to them a 2nd time they get frustrated because they have to sync the blockchain. Is there a way to have the app sync the blockchain in the background so they are always up to date?

Syncing is pretty important for having accurate, up-to-date wallet balance data. You can also try another (presumably mobile) wallet such as Zkool, Zingo, Ywallet or eZcash which are available on the app stores or source. They all transact Zcash and also require syncing (some faster than others) but have different features and behavior and so it would be best to treat them as separate wallets with separate seeds (cross-wallet seed import can be troublesome).

Zashi does sync in the background, but (thanks to various limitations imposed on phone apps by phone OSs) background sync only occurs in two scenarios:

  • If you have Zashi open and then background it (e.g. by switching to a different app), some amount of syncing will still occur (until the phone OS decides to kill the app).
  • Overnight (4am I think?), if your phone is plugged in and connected to WiFi.
