Farewell from the Zcash Community Grants Committee and a Parting Thought

Hello Everyone.

It is with mixed feelings that I announce my decision not to run for re-election to the Zcash Community Grants Committee (ZCG) for the upcoming term.

It has been a privilege to serve on the ZCG over the past year, witnessing the resilience, strength, and innovative spirit of our community. We’ve seen the community grants program grow, and I am incredibly proud of the strides we’ve made in propelling the Zcash ecosystem forward.

As I prepare to step away from this role, I’d like to share a parting recommendation that I believe could be pivotal for the continued growth and success of the Zcash ecosystem.

Our collective ethos has always been, “in Zcash, developers get paid,” and I believe it’s time we fully embrace this sentiment. Our talented teams of developers, working on wallets and applications, should not have to solely rely on direct grants from block rewards for continued funding. Instead, these block rewards should be primarily focused on core development, kickstarting projects from zero to one, and security of the chain.

To foster a more sustainable and innovative environment, I recommend encouraging and accepting applications built on Zcash to incorporate a shielded transaction fee that goes directly to the developers as part of the transaction flow. This small shift will allow the market to decide which applications provide the most value, reducing the long-term dependence on grant funding.

This approach not only encourages innovation but also allows our ecosystem to reward those who contribute the most. It is a shift that could foster self-sustainability and resilience in our ecosystem.

As I step back, I am filled with gratitude and pride. I extend heartfelt thanks to all of you—developers, project leaders, and community members—for your hard work, dedication, and passion. Thank you for making Zcash the vibrant and thriving ecosystem that it is today.

I also want to express my sincere appreciation to my colleagues on the ZCG for their unwavering support, camaraderie, and shared commitment to our mission. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am excited to witness the continued growth and success of the Zcash community.

Thank you all for granting me the opportunity to serve on the Zcash Community Grants Committee. It has been an honor and a privilege, and I look forward to seeing how our ecosystem evolves.
