Finding the target audience. Topic for discussing ways to promote Zcash mission

I’ve noticed that ZcashMedia has started posting stuff on CMC. And that’s just awesome! It’s really a shortcut to be in the center of attention of our target audience of people familiar with cryptocurrencies. I want to follow this for Russian-language materials as well.

And I’ve seen these thoughts on Twitter about how we should only choose social media platforms that align with our values and ignore others that don’t align with our Privacy vision. And you know what? I think it’s wrong. We had ZecPages and it shut down. Because it’s really hard to make something really popular from scratch. And if we don’t act like all the other crypto communities that don’t pick the hardest things, we can’t tell the world about ourselves. So to hell with all these prejudices.

Zcash activists, I welcome all endeavors, but please think about the presence on really popular media and crypto-media with our potential target audience.

Just analyze how much time we spend to publish blogs on media that are completely out of demand in some countries. Whereas there are large communities on Facebook and WhatsApp. In my opinion, any local community should analyze its platforms and choose the communication tools that are really popular for you, taking into account the regional specifics.

I’ll be filling this thread with everything I’ve learned over the past few years, trying to figure out from my own experience what people like and what people aren’t interested in reading and watching. And I’d love and hope for you to post your findings and share your experiences here as well. Our common goal is to bring the idea of Zcash to as many people as possible. This community has trust us to do that as efficiently as possible. So please subscribe to this thread. We will try to identify best practices in our work together.

I will try to summarize the best practices and create a sort of community toolkit that will allow for quick adoption by any new Zcash community members who may want to spread the Zcash mission in the future. I also hope that we will soon hold brainstorming sessions with @ZCG for this purpose.

They are posting on CMC indeed, yet the coin’s page is in disrepair. Supply is different from official website, broken whitepaper link, dead blockexplorer link, Zashi is not on the wallet list. And it’s not just CMC, for example, the Wikipedia page claims that latest release was 22 months ago (5.7.0).

Making Zcash’s pages not look like abandonware would certainly be good to promote the coin.

I agree with @arktor, each region has a different way of receiving Zcash. Brazil, for example, is a huge, continental country, and even though we speak the same language, the approach must be different in each region. We are currently introducing Zcash to large Brazilian cities, and here we have 26 states and a Federal District ahead of us. Therefore, particularly here in Brazil, being on social media, cultivating the community and going to in-person events are important to promote Zcash. Firstly, because direct contact clarifies and resolves doubts on time, and secondly, because large companies and other privacy projects (or not) also participate in these events and this contact can generate future partnerships.

Just because Zcash is a privacy currency does not mean its users should hide, after all, we are not doing anything wrong, right? To remove the stigma from Zcash that users are doing something hidden or illegal, it is good to have people talking openly and freely about Zcash with other people and exchanging experiences.

Great initiative! I believe discussions like this should happen more frequently to increase the chances of breakthrough ideas emerging from the sharing of perspectives. I agree that we should focus on platforms where our target audience is active, ignoring popular spaces would unnecessarily limit Zcash’s reach. I also think creating local-language content is a powerful way to reach non-English-speaking crypto communities, such as Farsi, Amharic, etc. Like the saying goes"Speak to a man in a language he understands, and you reach his head. Speak to him in his language, and you reach his heart." - Nelson Mandela (probably)

To elaborate on my above point, I saw a video the other day about a Czech company called Bata. Their localization strategy was so impressive that every country believes the brand is local to them, they even go as far as adapting their logos to the local language, making perfect cultural references, and the result is reaffirmed in the comments by people from multiple countries who had no idea the brand was not native. Here’s the link: Instagram Link

As a software engineer first, my ideas for expanding Zcash’s reach naturally lean toward software services that drive real-world adoption. However, I’ve noticed some hesitation in the community toward these approaches.

One thing I’ve always admired about centralized systems is how they form strategic partnerships to grow their market share. The whole “Barbenheimer” (Oppenheimer vs. Barbie) phenomenon was a coordinated effort between two studios to create the illusion of competition, where both ultimately benefited. The same goes for Mercedes partnering with Porsche to build the E500 masterpiece. Imagine if we collaborated with other privacy-focused projects like Monero to cross-promote shared values.

Zcash could also introduce a bounty program for local community outreach, rewarding in-person efforts such as hosting university or community seminars and recording them to claim the bounty. This could serve as a way for privacy enthusiasts to connect, onboard new users, and foster a sense of community.
