High block fees, or something else?

Can somone eli5 these exceedingly high block fees? I mean, its happening too much to be an accident. Maybe I’m not understanding, so I ask those in the know.

Doesn’t that mean it’s being sent from a transparent address to an orchard address?

I once noticed this and @hanh replied that it happens when moving from transparent to orchard, and since these tracking sites can’t track it, it appears as if it were a bug.

Yes, but in the picture I posted notice the amount it started with vs the amount that was sent into Orchard (turnstile). They spent 472.44 ZEC in fees (top right corner).

Could you link to the raw json of the tx? Losing this amount of zec because of a wallet app bug is very serious. I hope that wasn’t the case.

Here is one example:

Terrible . I have no idea how it passed their engineering review . Using 32 bit for amounts is pretty crazy . imagine losing ~300000 USD because of that… I hope the miner returned the fees.

That fix was in july, and this huge tx was in sept? So either its not a bug or another wallet is in the mix. Either way, wild.

or they fixed it but whoever made the tx didn’t update their browser.
