I7 LGA2011 comparision [Equihash with 6800K vs. 3820]

Hi all,

Haven’t built a machine in a while, and I’m playing around with (2) LGA2011 boards. One is an older ASROCK running a Sandy Bridge-E at 4.2gHz:

The newer board is a v3 running a 6800K, but I am now running at at 3.8gHz:

I really just know enough to be dangerous, XMP profile is running on the 3820 machine. I guess the greater operating speed is making the difference here?

Cheers,
SLC

How many sols/s do you get with i7 6800k in NiceHash?
I get around 25 with my i7 4790k, and just curious how much you get with i7 6800k. It’s a beast CPU!

Thanks for replying. I’ll grab another screen but you can see about 12 Sols/s with the 6800K whereas around 18-19 with the “old” 3820.

6800K - 9.97 Sol/s0.00 Sol/s (0.00%) 4.0387
3820 - 16.32 Sol/s0.45 Sol/s (2.68%) Stale: 0.45 Sol/s8.0900

Oh woow, I didn’t realise that it was score from i7 6800k.
Not sure why results are so bad :open_mouth:

Very strange to me. I have it running stable at 3.8gHz

Well from what I realised, clock speedd is not important.
I got 25 sol/s with my i7 4790k at 4,2GHz on all cores, so I decided to test at 4,8GHza dn 1,35V. Still same results.

I then went and downlocked my CPU to 3,5GHz and still same results xD
Lower temperatures and less power usage for same results.

CPU mining realy is buggy lol

do you have quad channel RAM?

On the 3820 yes with XMP settings. Onb the new machine I just tossed in a single stick of 8GB so far. Was wondering if that’s it.

6900k 4Ghz - 61 Sol/s

yeap, that’s it!
you need the highest ram channel of the mobo.
dual for 1150-1151-1155
triple for 1366
quad for 2011

May I ask how much are you getting now?

I was able to fit the Strix 1070 card in my main rig (Audio/Video playback) with the 8320, so I am thinking about adding two more 1070 cards for the 6800K machine, and will pick up enough RAM for quad channel tomorrow.

I’m curious to try some mining pools or this GPU + CPU:

(2) nheqminer 0.3a - NVIDIA, CPUDownload miner at https://github.com/nicehash/nheqminer/releasesGPU + CPU : nheqminer.exe -cd 0 -t 4 -l us-east1.zcash.miningpoolhub.com:20570 -u username.workername -p x
CPU only : nheqminer.exe -t 4 -l us-east1.zcash.miningpoolhub.com:20570 -u username.workername -p x
Type “nheqminer -h” for detailed options.

Yeah, @thea is right you definitely want to use all 4 memory channel. I have 6850k with a Nvidia 1080 and am getting about 70 sol/s with cpu+gpu. I can run it with cpu only and let you know how many I’m getting when I’m back at my machine.

@datruck - many thanks, are you using the standalone nheqminer?

I’m thinking of adding (2) RX470 cards and trying the SilentArmy miner, but my concern is the possible hit the CPU will take running this setup and using the nheqminer in NiceHash.

I’m using the suprnova pool version of nheqminer https://github.com/ocminer/nheqminer/releases/download/V0.3a/nheqminer_v0.4b_suprnova.zip

I believe @ocminer also added silentarmy kernel to this release so if you’re thinking of going the RX470 route it might be worth trying it out.

btw, I ran cpu only and I’m getting 43 sols/s on my 6850k
and 27 sols/s gpu only.

I wouldnt be too concerned with the cpu performance of running the silentarmy miner along side the nheqminer. On my dedicated mining rig i’m running 6 RX480 with silentarmy on a 4790k with nheqminer for cpu. I haven’t needed to but you could always lower the number of threads in the nheqminer if you need the cpu to do some other work.

thanks, I did a quick test and hashed with GPU only and no change to the 1070.

I’m now running proper quad channel on the 6800K at 3.8gHz and seeing:

6800k 37.17 Sol/s

i73820 18.13 Sol/s

I think I could fit (4) RX480 cards in my 6800k rig so I will probably do that.

That’s more like it! Good luck with the rig. I’d be interested in hearing how it works out.
