Again, it took months before that became a thing with Ethereum or Monero.
Might want to re-read my last post. But yes, for a full fledged ‘OS’ no doubt.
I was around during the start of ETH mining. I don’t recall there being any Ubuntu-on-a-stick “boot and mine” solution of -any- kind. I -do- however remember a lot of people struggling to learn linux then.
When did GPU mining become available for ETH? Was it from launch? I’m trying to gauge the effect on difficulty.
I ran a super simple boot-stick for Ethereum mining day-1, that said I think GETH/CPP was easier than Zcash seems to be.
Yes. I mined ETH pretty much day-1 with some 290x cards.
Hell, I’ll take a look at what I can do with a minimal Ubuntu install and Zcash. Maybe I can patch some easy to use USB image together.
Around May of 2015:

Voxelot I also have a multi GH mine and SSH capabilities. We have everything from 270, 280(x), 7950, 290x, 380, 390 and some nvidia that I can get you access too. Going to reach on on gitter if I can find you.
Which version of Ubuntu would you recommend
I am a miner learning ubuntu got cpu miner on OCs pool working now looking on the gpu side is ZOG miner close to been able to mine.
Thank You
We are working on improving an open source GPU kernel with xenoncat and tromp solver ideas and a few of our own. We still can’t promise that it will be ready for launch but I am working hard to make it ready before.
Unbuntu uses more power when it comes to mining.
Also w10 has Linux built in now. I’ve completed the CPU solver and zcash setup thro w10. Seemed stable. I’ll test more when a gpu miner comes out.
Well I want to say that I want to donate 0.5 BTC to the first AMD miner that will render good Sol/s And I always support let me know ok I follow your steps closely and WILL KEEP MY WORD not like other do you have donation page
Thank You
What is the status of Zogminer? I compiled yesterday’s version and it still can’t submit hashrate to suprnova.cc’s pool.
Working on getting the solver ready. We had to scrap work and start from scratch with the solver. The new approaches (buckets and so on), were really fast, and we felt a normal implementation would not fare well. We are working on a new implementation, patience guys. We’re on it.
You guys rock. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to dedicating a rig or two and sending mined Zcash to a donation address post launch.
I am very new to all this mining stuff, just got my first bunch of GPUs but compiled current version and it’s running smooth on rx470 nitro (getting 8.5 H/s), no crashes during 2 hours.
The only thing I didn’t understand well and didn’t find any info about this miner and others is how actually can I mine on any testpool? Maybe someone can push me into right direction?
What version of Ubuntu?
the latest one 16.04.01
The solver is not complete yet. So no use in running the miner now, but thanks for testing our current code. When it is ready we will let everybody know.
