### Project Summary
Zecmap.com is a discovery platform that lists Zcash-accepting businesses on an interactive map, empowering users to easily make privacy-focused crypto payments in the real world. The platform aims to drive the real-world adoption of Zcash in everyday commerce and seamlessly connect users with the right merchants.
### Project Description
Zecmap is a location-based discovery and directory platform that lists physical and digital businesses accepting Zcash on an interactive map. The platform aims to make Zcash an actively used payment method in everyday commerce, rather than just an investment asset.
With the rising momentum of Zcash in 2026, it has covered serious ground in development and turned into a real CURRENCY. In light of these developments, this step taken to use it in daily life aims to make this culture widespread in the coming years.
The Problem Solved
One of Zcash's biggest shortcomings is that users cannot easily find where they can spend their assets in the real world. On the other hand, businesses that accept Zcash payments also struggle to reach their target audience and gain visibility. Zecmap removes this communication and access barrier between both sides.
Key Features
**Interactive Location Map**: Allows users to find Zcash-accepting businesses in their region or globally by filtering them by category (restaurants, services, software, etc.). https://zecmap.com/map
**Community-Driven Business Addition**: Enables Zcash users and shop owners to submit new businesses to the system for verification.
**Business Detail Pages**: Includes information such as location, contact details, accepted payment methods, and user reviews. https://zecmap.com/business/zodl
**Statistics**: Details like how many users visit the site daily, which regions they visit from, and how many businesses have been verified are clearly shown. https://zecmap.com/analytics
**User Interaction**: Users can go to local businesses in their area, make payments with Zcash, leave reviews/ratings about the business, and confirm its accuracy.
In addition, with the Flexa integration, when users want to go to a business on the map:
Yellow pin businesses: Accept Zcash directly.
Purple pin businesses: Represent Flexa integration.
### Technical Approach (how you did it)
ZecMap started from a simple need: being able to see all the places where you can pay with Zcash on a single map. We started writing code on April 5th, first put out a working version, and then improved it step by step based on feedback from users. The site is now live and actively in use.
For the map, we deliberately chose open-source and privacy-respecting tools, because that's what fit the spirit of Zcash best. We use MapLibre GL JS (v4.7.1) as the map engine, and the base map comes from CARTO's vector styles built on top of OpenStreetMap data (in both light and dark themes). To keep the map from slowing down as the number of businesses grows, we group the markers using Supercluster (v8.0.1). This way we get the job done without relying at all on closed services like Google Maps that track you.
On the front end we didn't use a heavy framework; we wrote it in plain JavaScript to keep the site fast and lightweight, and built the pieces — map, search, favorites, sharing — as separate modules. The site currently runs in both Turkish and English, and includes business search, business detail pages, user accounts, and a system that lets the community add new places. We check and approve every business added to the map one by one, by hand, so that the information stays genuinely accurate. We didn't leave the mobile side out either; we published our apps for both iOS) and Android so people can look up ZEC-friendly places near them while they're out and about.

Once we finished building the system as a team, we didn't stop there. We first gathered feedback from the community to spot what was missing, and then carried out a separate effort to add businesses that accept payments through Flexa to the map as well. On top of that, to keep the map constantly alive, we set up a regular process for adding businesses: we formed a team that regularly emails businesses listed on existing maps like BTCMap, and through this we keep actively adding new places.
