Run node behind NAT

Hi, I run zcashd on home machine behind two NATs - home router and ISP shared IP, so obviously no one can connect to my server, while my node is connected to 8 others.

And I see message with progressive counter like

Since starting this node 12 minutes, 20 seconds ago:

  • You have validated 1023 transactions!

Does my instance do something useful?

Thanks.

Yes, you are still uploading blockchain data to the nodes that you are connected to.

Does it also confirm real transactions (though without mining)?

Yes. Every single node confirms its own transactions, there is no collaborative process involved.
