is there a way to get my zcash back from zecwallet lite without seed phase i tried everything and i cant get it back
If the pre-existing database on whatever version of the wallet you have is still intact then itâs not hopeless, at least. With desktop maybe yes. On mobile, maybe eventually (this implies preserving the physical device with the wallet that wonât open until a viable solution is found). Otherwise, without the seed or keys and no pre-existing form of the wallet then no, it is not recoverable.
so because they decided to stop the website everybody just gets screwed out of thousands of dollars. and i see eveybody says oh just transfer it to ywallet if you have seed phase and that doesnt even work. it just pushes people away from zcash and crypto. how can you put thousands of dollars to secured wallet and than boom we closed the website so you just out of all the money you put in
If you have the seed phrase, then you can import into Ywallet, it will work. It is really, highly suggested that you backup your seed and keys in physical format; writing them down somewhere, something like that.
The main issue with Zecwallet Light on mobile is that the interface will not open if it does not connect to a hard coded server, which yes is no longer available. Preventing access was a poor design choice to begin with, but also because of it, no other wallet behaves this way anymore. Hard coded servers isnât that great of a choice either, but In most wallets it allows for a custom lightwallet server selection.
Itâs an open source project funded by the foundation, but the owner of the repo, the developer of the wallet, is basically vanished and thereâs really nothing we can do currently.
Well⌠Every Zcash wallet didnât go through a security review and there may be some issues. However, generally speaking, the first rule of self custody is to keep a copy of your seed phrase, isnât it?
so you telling me first time you got into crypto you saved seed phase because you were expert right away ?
I wasnât an expert but yes, I did print off my private keys and seeds. It was made abundantly clear that without them, I would lose my funds.
Most wallets that have a seed phrase tell you when you start your wallet the first time: âbackup your seedâ or âsave your seed in a safe placeâ etcâŚ
If you donât save your seed, or a backup of the private keys then your funds canât be recovered.
Self-custody has itâs risks, you have to be careful.
I agree that the wallet didnât make it clear enough for a new user that the seed phrase was paramount for recovery.
Tbh, I think the newer wallets still donât do enough to protect / warn their users.
But once you start putting more funds into it, I think it becomes more important to do some research. After all, it could have been a scam.
I am sorry for your loss and I hope you will find a way to get your key.
