What are you Watching?

Looking forward for this film about a physical-art artist, trailer looks well made, and I’m giving away one ticket to the 24 minute documentary!

Finally available at my local Blu-ray disc vendor:

I bet the new Dune is pretty good, I haven’t seen it yet. I did finish one today called Penguin Highway and it was delightful with a wonderful depth of story, thought provoking, beautiful. Otherwise it’s pretty difficult to describe (and might ruin it anyways right?!) but there’s penguins and it’s weird and I’ll leave it at that!:penguin:
(My kids watch this Roku thing and its on the “Kids and Family - The Roku Channel” channel, its purple and has Barney and Archie and Garfield and Madeline and Chase and Bob and Peppa and Ryan and Nastya and a few more, you’ll see it )

It is, I just finished watching it and it follows the book pretty closely. The storyline stands on its own and the cinematography is top notch. Two thumbs up :+1::+1:

 Lucy is why we have Star Trek, she personally financed the filming of BOTH pilot episodes. The first was rejected outright by NBC and normally that would have been the end of it. (Lol and apparently she didnt know it was about ‘space’ at first when Roddenbury contacted Desilu, she thought it was about about a group of travelling USO performers during WWII.)

I’ve been watching a clock lately, specifically an arduino uno r3 running a ds1307 real time clock module which itself runs on a 32.768 khz crystal. It also incorporates a 8x64 led matrix display and a little 4x4 keypad for input and it’s been a little tricky with memory constraints and options but otherwise works. Curve fitting now.

Phones! You might just be watching one right now. So the new phones we ending up getting are through our isp and saved us a considerable amount on the phones. One thing about them anymore is the supee power saver mode and used to be that’s what it was called and, in power options, where you would find it. Now its called emergency mode at the bottom of the emergency call option list in the settings.
Then you have to agree to a statement saying your phone is reduced performance and can’t hold them liable as though it were something dangerous to do. They don’t want you to know that your battery can last ~8 days in a full charge not airplaned.
Emergency mode attempts to further dissuade you from using it by inconvinence and making the text app into a distress call function by initially auto-populating the field with “I need help” followed by a google map link your gps coordinates in case you cant really type (theres also a SOS mode used by pushing the power button 3 or 4 times in a row and that just seems to easily accidentally triggered to me). One only needs backspace to delete that and go about normal uasge. Limited apps? I guess but like I don’t care, it’s a phone and ~2 hours per 1% battery is a superior tradeoff in my opinion because the only way thats possible is if this thing isn’t broadcasting nonstop like normal (then the battery normally lasts 1.5-ish days).

Another tech tip, same ballpark as the last kinda. Eventually with tablets, laptops and any battery powered device the battery, despite our best efforts, will weaken and will have an effect on the performance and operation even when on external power and sometimes making it unusable. On some android platforms there is a battery optimization setting in the app settings which will exclude selected apps from being throttled when the battery is low (and it freezes). The laptop hot fix is remove the battery and just power with the psu but usually mobile devices require a battery connected to boot. I’ve done both of these, most recently the former, and they’ve brought a couple of my slow, unresponsive devices back to life i.e. twas the issue, no amount of lightening or memory tweaking worked at all.

Having installed a new Kodi build https://www.firestickhow.com/misfit-mods-lite-build-kodi.html, I’m currently watching The Outlander. The entire series is fantastic and the first two seasons are perfect. I’ve just started the 3rd season, and I hope this tv show won’t become less interesting with each season.

I watched a show on NHK World-Japan about Edo style Winter-time Bitterling fishing. Now there are various other styles of Japanese fishing for small fish but this is the smallest and the practice itself seemingly the most niche. The craftsmanship of the tackle is unbelievable like you might expect; bamboo rod whittled down to a spaghetti noodle, ornately painted traditional style floats and beautiful cases and boxes to hold it all. The hook sharpening required a magnifying loupe and file like a hairpin because the hook end is probably about 1mm long, it was unreal. The prized catch (below) is a one-yen Bitterling which is 2cm or less.
