Following the constructive feedback from the Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) committee on our “Zcash India 2026” proposal (linked here: GitHub Issue and Forum Thread), we’re excited to start contributing to the Zcash ecosystem in smaller, measurable ways. The committee emphasized proving ourselves through contributions to ZecHub and building a track record, so we’re kicking off with low-cost, community-focused activities to onboard Indian developers and raise privacy awareness.
To begin, we’ve set up the official Zcash India channels:
X Account: @ZcashIND – Currently 1 follower.
Telegram Group: @ZcashIN – Currently 5 members.
We’ll be posting regular Zcash tips, zk basics, and India-relevant content (e.g., privacy in remittances) to grow these organically. In the comments below, we’ll provide regular updates with % increases in stats, details on campaigns, ZecHub contributions, and any small developer sessions we host.
We’re open to suggestions on how to contribute more effectively, especially from ZecHub folks or other regional Zcash communities. Let’s build this together!
Since launching our channels on February 22, we’ve been heads-down building Zcash India from the ground up. Here’s a transparent update on everything we’ve done and where we’re headed.

We’ve published 4 to 6 original educational graphics on X covering Zcash basics: what Zcash is, why privacy matters, and how shielded transactions work, designed specifically for the Indian developer and crypto audience. A dedicated series is coming next (more below).
$100 Community Bounty — Live and Getting Submissions
To kickstart organic awareness, we launched a $100 bounty program rewarding developers and crypto community members for writing original threads about Zcash India on X. The bounty is live on both X and Telegram and has already received submissions. This is a deliberate, low-cost strategy to generate authentic grassroots content and extend our reach into India’s existing Web3 communities.
Some of the submissions which were submitted just under 48 hours of announcement, and many more submissions will be there soon, some of the current bounty submissions are following :
We’re committed to building this transparently and proving our execution before asking for anything. Will keep this thread updated regularly with metrics, content links, and ZecHub progress.
Thanks for following along, feedback always welcome!
Here is our second progress update since launching Zcash India. Things are moving fast and we have a lot to share.

Both channels continue to grow organically with zero paid promotion. Telegram nearly doubled since our last update which shows strong interest from India’s developer community.
Content Published
We have continued publishing original educational graphics on X covering Zcash basics, shielded transactions, and privacy explainers designed specifically for the Indian developer audience. Our latest graphic breaks down the difference between a regular crypto transaction and a Zcash shielded transaction in a simple visual split-screen format that has been well received.
$100 Bounty — 12 Submissions and Counting
The bounty program has generated strong momentum. We have received 12 submissions so far from developers and crypto community members writing original threads about Zcash and Zcash India. One standout submission came from a developer who built a small project explaining Zcash’s underlying mechanism (https://zcash-delta.vercel.app/), which goes well beyond what we expected from the bounty. This is exactly the kind of grassroots builder engagement we were aiming to create.
Collaboration with HackTour India
Zcash India officially collaborated with HackTour India, India’s most active developer community, to amplify the bounty program to top developer talent across the country. HackTour India has 912+ followers on X and an extensive network of university clubs, Web3 communities, and hackathon participants across tier 1, 2, and 3 cities. This collaboration brought the bounty directly in front of exactly the kind of builders Zcash needs to reach in India.
What’s Next
We are continuing to grow both channels, publishing more localized content including Hindi explainers, and preparing our ZecHub proposal for a university workshop. We will share the proposal link here once it is submitted for community voting.
We remain committed to building this transparently, step by step, with real execution and real numbers. Will keep this thread updated regularly.

Here are some recent interesting must-read posts by Zcash India
$150 Bounty Program - Completed
Our community bounty program has officially concluded. We launched with a $100 prize pool targeting the top 3 threads. After receiving 21 total submissions and carefully reviewing each entry across content quality, graphics, reach, originality, effort, and overall impact, we made the decision to increase the total prize pool to $150 by adding an additional $50 to reward the depth of participation from our community.
Winners:
1st Place — $60 — Web3Oracle
2nd Place — $25 — JOKER
3rd Place — $15 — Arslan
Additional prizes for outstanding submissions:
$10 each — Vinayak, De_wave , DhruvxBug
$5 each — Tushar , U.C. , Foenix, Bigoche
Total winners: 10. Total distributed: $150 in ZEC. All winners paid within days of announcement.
Selected Bounty Submissions
The range and quality of entries genuinely exceeded our expectations. Below are the notable submissions from the community:
One developer also independently built a working project at https://zcash-delta.vercel.app/ to demonstrate Zcash’s underlying mechanism, which went well beyond what the bounty required and represents exactly the kind of builder engagement Zcash India was designed to create.
ZecHub Grant - Received
We are pleased to share that Zcash India has received a grant from ZecHub to fund the next phase of structured execution. ZecHub’s official announcement: https://x.com/ZecHub/status/2033595714085818493
The grant covers two months of deliverable-driven work across three pillars:
IRL University Workshops One in-person workshop per month at a partner university. Each session covers zk-SNARK basics, Zcash’s privacy features, shielded wallet setup, and live hands-on testnet activity. Every attendee sets up a Zcash wallet during the session. Full post-event recaps with photos, aftermovie, attendance proof, and metrics will be published here on the forum.
Online Community Events One monthly online AMA or workshop session covering Zcash privacy technology, live Q&A, and community challenges. Open to all community members globally.
Content and Community Growth Continued original educational content on X and Telegram, Hindi-language explainers, wallet setup resources, developer quickstarts, and monthly bounties to sustain community momentum.
What is Coming Next
Our first IRL offline event is being finalized for April 2026. This will be a landmark moment for Zcash India - our first in-person event bringing Indian university students face to face with Zcash’s privacy technology, live wallet setup, and hands-on testnet activity. Full details, venue, and registration will be shared here and across our X and Telegram as soon as confirmed.
More bounties, more content, and more events are in the pipeline. We are committed to monthly transparent reporting here on the forum with real numbers and proof of execution at every step.
Cumulative Milestones Since Launch
115 followers on X and 119 members on Telegram, both from zero, entirely organic
21 bounty submissions received, 10 winners, $150 distributed in ZEC
Consistent weekly content across X and Telegram covering shielded transactions, ZK proofs, wallet setup, Z3 updates, and Zcash Shielded News
Collaboration with HackTour India’s 900+ developer network to amplify reach
ZecHub grant received for 2 months of structured IRL and online execution
First IRL university event coming in April 2026
We are building this step by step, transparently, with real numbers and real execution at every milestone. The response from India’s builder community has been encouraging and we are just getting started.
Will continue posting updates here as we hit new milestones.
It’s been a massive month for Zcash India. We hit milestones we didn’t expect to reach this early — two events (one online, one offline), a new bounty program driving organic engagement, and community numbers that have blown past our initial projections. Here’s the full breakdown.

X followers more than doubled. Telegram more than doubled. Still 100% organic. Zero paid promotion. These numbers are a direct result of consistent content, two live events, and a community that’s starting to share on its own.
First Online Event — Zcash India Live #01
On April 14, we hosted the first-ever Zcash India online meetup. 40 minutes. 22 slides. Complete beginners.
77 live attendees showed up. Our internal KPI was 65+. We exceeded it on the first try.
Here’s what we covered:
The evolution of the web (Web1 → Web2 → Web3) and why privacy breaks down on public blockchains
A live Etherscan demo — we showed attendees what a salary looks like on a transparent chain. The room went silent.
Zero-Knowledge Proofs and zk-SNARKs explained in plain English
Transparent vs. shielded addresses — why Zcash is different
Live wallet creation — every attendee installed Zashi (now Zodl), created a self-custodial wallet with no email, no KYC, just a seed phrase and a PIN. For most, this was their first self-custodial wallet ever.
Live faucet demo — attendees claimed free ZEC from zecfaucet.com and sent their first shielded transactions on the call. Shoutout to ZecHub for running the faucet that made this possible.
Shortly after the online event, we took Zcash India to the real world. Our first offline workshop brought privacy education directly to students — live demos, wallet setups, and face-to-face conversations about why financial privacy matters.
The energy was incredible. Students who had never heard of Zcash walked out with wallets, ZEC, and a reason to care about privacy.
Here’s what attendees had to say — in their own words, unprompted:
When attendees voluntarily tweet about your event without being asked — that’s the signal. These aren’t paid promoters. These are students who genuinely found value in what we’re building.
$100 Meme Bounty — Live & Receiving Submissions
This month we launched a $100 Meme Bounty ($20 × 5 winners) to drive creative community engagement around financial privacy and Zcash. The rules are simple: create an original, positive meme about privacy or Zcash, post it on X tagging @ZcashIND with #ZcashIndiaMeme.
This is exactly the kind of grassroots, organic content creation we set out to drive — real people making real content about Zcash, reaching audiences we couldn’t reach alone.
What’s Working
Looking back at two months of execution, a few things are clearly working:
Events convert. The online event exceeded our attendance KPI on attempt one. The offline workshop generated unprompted social proof from attendees. We’re going monthly on both formats.
Bounties drive authentic content. Both the thread-writing bounty (March) and the meme bounty (April) have generated genuine community-created content that extends Zcash India’s reach far beyond our own follower count.
The numbers speak for themselves. From 1 follower and 5 members to 167 followers and 221 Telegram members — with zero paid promotion. Every number here is earned.
What’s Next
Monthly online events continuing — Zcash India Live #02 is being planned
More IRL university workshops to bring privacy education to students across India
Continued bounty programs to keep community engagement high
ZecHub contributions and deeper integration with the global Zcash ecosystem
We said we’d prove ourselves through execution. Two months in: two events delivered, two bounty programs run, a community growing faster than projected, and real people making their first shielded transactions.
We’re just getting started.
Thanks for following along — feedback always welcome!
Another strong month for Zcash India. Our after-movie from the first offline event went viral across the Zcash community, the meme bounty wrapped up with 22 submissions (and we had to increase the prize pool), and our community numbers keep climbing — all organic, as always. This is by far the highest-performing post from any regional Zcash community account we’ve seen. The engagement came from our event attendees, the global Zcash community, and ZecHub — all sharing, commenting, and amplifying organically.
The video captures what Zcash India events actually feel like on the ground: real students, real wallets, real ZEC, real conversations about privacy. That authenticity resonated.
$100 Meme Bounty — Results
We launched the #ZcashIndiaMeme bounty to drive creative, positive community content about financial privacy and Zcash. The results exceeded expectations.
22 original meme posts were submitted on X by community members. Here’s every single submission:
(3 posts were deleted by their authors after submission)
The quality and creativity of submissions genuinely impressed us. Multiple posts crossed 1,000+ views organically, and some generated 60+ reposts. This wasn’t farming — this was real people making real content about Zcash and privacy.
Prize Pool Increase: $100 → $120
Because the quality was so high, we increased the total bounty pool from $100 to $120 to reward more creators. We couldn’t limit it to just 5 winners when this many people delivered.
Content drives community, community drives content. The meme bounty generated 22 original posts about Zcash from people who aren’t us. That’s 22 pieces of authentic Zcash content reaching audiences we’d never reach on our own.
Events create believers. Our after-movie hit 11.2K views because the people who attended our offline event genuinely cared enough to engage, share, and comment.
Increasing rewards when quality is high signals that we value our community. Bumping the bounty from $100 to $120 was a small cost for a big trust signal. People notice when you reward good work.
What’s Next
Zcash India Live #02 — next online event in planning
More IRL university workshops across India
New bounty programs building on the momentum from #ZcashIndiaMeme
Continued organic content and community building
We said we’d prove ourselves through execution. Three months in: two events delivered, two bounty programs completed, a viral after-movie, 22 community-created meme posts, 222 X followers, and 231 Telegram members — all organic.
The community is real. The momentum is real.

Big update this time. We hosted our second online event, crossed 250 followers on X, blew past 300 members on Telegram, announced a new $100 video bounty, and our next offline event in Udaipur is just days away. Here’s the full breakdown.

Telegram jumped from 231 to 337 in just a few weeks. Most of the new members came organically through Live #02 attendees joining the community after the event. No paid promotion, no airdrops, no gimmicks. Just people who showed up, learned about Zcash, and wanted to stay connected.
X continues its steady climb past 250, all earned through content and community.
Zcash India Live #02 — Delivered
Our second monthly online event happened on May 22, 2026. 70+ attendees joined on a Friday evening to learn about financial privacy and Zcash.
What we covered:
Why privacy matters: real-world surveillance, data tracking, and why financial privacy is a fundamental right
Zcash 101: shielded transactions, ZK proofs, how Zcash actually works
Live Comparison : How other blockchain works and how is Zcash different.
Community update: growth numbers, after-movie stats, meme bounty results
Live reactions: played the after-movie from our first offline event and the chat went wild
ZEC price hit $643 during the event and the audience reacted to that in real time
Announced the new $100 Video Explainer Bounty (details below)
The energy was real. 70+ people on a Friday evening, staying through a 40-minute presentation, reacting to every slide, asking questions, and joining the Telegram afterward. That’s not a number we’re inflating. That’s a room full of people who care.
KPI check: Our target is 65+ live attendees per online event. Live #01 hit 77. Live #02 hit 70+. Two for two.
$100 Video Explainer Bounty — Announced
After the success of our meme bounty (22 submissions), we launched the next community challenge: the #ZcashIndiaExplainer Video Bounty.
The challenge: Create a short explainer video about Zcash, financial privacy, ZK proofs, or shielded transactions.
Prize pool: $100 in ZEC across 11 winners.
$20 each to Top 2
$10 each to Next 3
$5 each to 6 Special Mentions
Videos must be original, positive, and beginner-friendly. Post on X, tag @ZcashIND, use #ZcashIndiaExplainer, and drop the link in our Telegram.
The meme bounty proved our community creates real content when given the right prompt. Now we’re raising the bar from memes to education. If the same energy carries over, this should be good.
Original Explainer Content
We’re not just running bounties. We’re leading by example.
We published our own Zcash explainer video on X, breaking down what Zcash is and why financial privacy matters in a short, beginner-friendly format.
Another explainer video drops today. The goal is simple: build a library of original, easy-to-understand Zcash content coming directly from Zcash India. When community members see us creating this kind of content ourselves, it sets the standard for what we expect from the video bounty submissions.
Offline Event #02 — Udaipur, May 27
Our second offline event is confirmed.
Date: May 27, 2026 Venue: GITS, Udaipur
This will follow the same format as our first offline event: hands-on Zcash workshop, live wallet setup, ZEC distribution to attendees, and real conversations about privacy with students.
Our first offline event generated a viral after-movie (11.2K views on X). We’re aiming to replicate that impact in Udaipur and bring Zcash education to a completely new audience.
KPI check: Our target is 200+ students per IRL workshop.
What’s Working
Four months in, the pattern is clear:
Events feed the community. Live #02 brought 70+ attendees and a wave of new Telegram members. The funnel from event to community is working exactly as planned.
Bounties create content at scale. The meme bounty generated 22 organic posts. The video bounty should push that even further with higher-quality, educational content about Zcash.
Consistency builds trust. Two online events delivered on schedule. Two offline events (one done, one days away). Two bounty programs (one completed, one live). People see us showing up month after month and they start believing this is real.
What’s Next
Offline Event #02 at GITS, Udaipur on May 27
Video Explainer Bounty submissions and judging
Zcash India Live #03 planning for next month
Continued organic growth across X and Telegram
We said we’d prove ourselves through execution. Four months in: three events delivered (two online, one offline), a second offline event days away, two bounty programs (one completed with 22 submissions, one live), 261 X followers, and 337 Telegram members. All organic.
The community keeps growing because the work keeps happening.
Thanks for following along. Feedback always welcome!
Packed update this time. Our second offline event in Udaipur brought 192 students who created wallets and received ZEC on the spot. The video explainer bounty wrapped up with 24 submissions. X jumped from 261 to 344 in a few weeks, driven by a combination of the Udaipur event (attendees tweeting about their experience) and the video bounty (24 creators posting Zcash explainer content). Every follower continues to be organic. Zero paid promotion since day one.
Offline Event #02: GITS, Udaipur (May 27)
Our second offline event happened at GITS, Udaipur on May 27, 2026. 192 students showed up.
What happened on the ground:
Full presentation covering Zcash fundamentals: what Zcash is, how ZK proofs work, shielded vs transparent transactions, and why financial privacy matters
How Zcash is different from regular blockchains and why that difference matters
Every attendee created a wallet using Zodl during the session
We sent small amounts of ZEC to attendees’ wallets so they could experience a real shielded transaction firsthand
Attendees submitted their wallet addresses on the spot
We also introduced the upcoming ZecHub hackathon to the audience, encouraging students with development backgrounds to participate
192 students walked in knowing nothing about Zcash. They walked out with wallets, real ZEC, and an understanding of why privacy matters. Multiple attendees tweeted about their experience in real time.
After-movie: We published the after-movie from the Udaipur event, this time with copyright-free music based on feedback from ZecHub on our previous after-movie.
$100 Video Explainer Bounty: Completed
The #ZcashIndiaExplainer video bounty wrapped up and the results exceeded our expectations again. 24 original explainer videos were submitted on X by community members.
The step up in quality from our meme bounty to this video bounty was significant. Community members created genuine explainer content: screen recordings, talking-head videos, and visual breakdowns explaining Zcash, shielded transactions, and financial privacy to beginner audiences.
For context: our meme bounty received 22 submissions and we had to increase the prize pool. Our video bounty received 24 submissions. The community keeps showing up, and the content quality keeps going up.
What’s Working
Four months of consistent execution, and the patterns are clear:
Offline events create real believers. 192 students in Udaipur didn’t just hear about Zcash. They created wallets, received ZEC, and experienced shielded transactions. Many of them tweeted about it unprompted. That’s the difference between awareness and adoption.
Bounties keep scaling. Meme bounty: 22 submissions. Video bounty: 24 submissions. Each round attracts more participants and higher quality. The community is now creating educational content about Zcash without us having to produce it all ourselves.
Everything compounds. The Udaipur event drove X followers. The video bounty drove X followers. The new followers see the next bounty, the next event, and they participate. The flywheel is working.
What’s Next
Zcash India Live #03: next monthly online community event, planning underway
Developer-focused online event: a dedicated session for developers covering building with Zcash
New bounty program launching soon
Next offline event being planned for a new key city
Continued promotion of the ZecHub hackathon across our community and university network
Four months in: three online events delivered, two offline events (269 total students), three bounty programs (two completed with 46 total submissions, one live), 344 X followers, 356 Telegram members. All organic, all real.
We keep showing up. The community keeps growing.
Thanks for following along. Feedback always welcome!
Massive month. Our biggest offline event yet in Vadodara brought 229 attendees. We launched and completed the Mini Meetup Bounty (and increased the prize pool again). Zcash India Live #03 (June 14)
Our third monthly online event happened on June 14, 2026. 82 attendees joined live.
We covered community updates, bounty announcements, ecosystem news, and continued our educational format around Zcash fundamentals and privacy. Three events in, the attendance stays consistent at 70-80+ every single time.
KPI check: Target is 65+ live attendees per online event. Live #03 got 82.
Event tweet:
Zcash Community Connect: Vadodara Edition
Our biggest offline event yet. 229 attendees showed up at our Vadodara edition.
What happened on the ground:
Full Zcash workshop: what Zcash is, how ZK proofs work, shielded vs transparent transactions, why financial privacy matters
Every attendee created a wallet using Zodl during the session
We distributed ZEC to attendees’ wallets so they could experience a real shielded transaction firsthand
Attendees submitted their wallet addresses on the spot
Multiple attendees tweeted about their experience in real time
229 people walked in, most of them hearing about Zcash for the first time. They walked out with wallets, real ZEC, and a genuine understanding of why privacy matters.
For context: our first offline event generated a viral after-movie (11.2K views). Our second in Udaipur brought 192 students. Vadodara brought 229. The numbers keep going up because the format works.
Zcash Developer Workshop #01 (June 28)
Today we launched something new: the first-ever Zcash Developer Workshop.
38 developers joined the session. This is a dedicated event for developers, separate from our regular community Live events.
What we covered:
Zcash architecture and developer ecosystem (Zebra, Zodl, Lightwalletd, librustzcash)
Transparent vs shielded transactions from a technical perspective
Zero-knowledge proofs: how they work under the hood
Developer tools, SDKs, and how to start building with Zcash
ZecHub Hackathon details and how to participate
Live product demo from ZcashNames (ZNS), the decentralized naming system for Zcash that replaces complex wallet addresses with human-readable names like alice.zec
This is the beginning of a new track for Zcash India. Community events bring awareness. Developer events bring builders. India has 21 million+ GitHub developers. We’re going after them now.
A recap post will go up on @ZcashIND soon.
$150 Mini Meetup Bounty: Completed (Increased to $200)
We launched the Zcash India Mini Meetup Bounty this month. The idea was simple: instead of us going to one city at a time, let the community host their own Zcash meetups across India.
The results blew us away. Community members hosted real, in-person Zcash meetups in colleges, cafes, and co-working spaces. The submissions were so strong that we increased the prize pool from $150 to $200.
This is the third bounty in a row where we had to increase the prize pool because the community over-delivered.
These are real people hosting real mini meetups about Zcash in their own cities. That’s not community management. That’s a movement.
Original Content: Explainer Videos
We continued producing original educational content this month. Two new explainer videos were published on @ZcashIND:
Hindi Zcash Explainer
We published our first Hindi-language Zcash explainer video. There is virtually no Zcash educational content in Hindi anywhere on the internet, despite 600 million+ Hindi speakers worldwide. This is the beginning of a dedicated Hindi content pipeline for Zcash.
Shielded Address Explainer
A focused explainer breaking down how shielded addresses work in Zcash: what they do, why they matter, and how they differ from transparent addresses.
We are not just running bounties and asking the community to create content. We are leading by example and building a library of original, easy-to-understand Zcash content directly from Zcash India.
What’s Working
Five months of execution. The patterns keep compounding:
Offline events are our strongest lever. Udaipur (192), Vadodara (229). Each event creates wallets, distributes ZEC, and converts attendees into community members. The after-movies reach thousands more.
Bounties keep evolving. Memes (22 submissions), then videos (24 submissions), now meetups (14 hosts across multiple cities). Each bounty format is more ambitious than the last, and the community keeps delivering.
Developer track is live. Our first developer workshop brought 38 developers and a live product demo from ZcashNames. This is a new growth channel that directly feeds the Zcash builder ecosystem.
What’s Next
Zcash India Live #04 in planning
Developer Workshop #02 with deeper technical content
New bounty program launching soon
Next offline event being planned for another key city
Continued promotion of the ZecHub Hackathon
More original explainer content in the pipeline
Five months in: four online events delivered, three offline workshops (421 total students across three cities), four bounty programs completed (memes, videos, meetups, video explainer), 390 X followers, 550 Telegram members, and a brand new developer workshop series launched. All organic.
Every month we add something new. Every month the community grows. Every month the execution is consistent.
Thanks for following along. Feedback always welcome!
Biggest month yet for Zcash India. X crossed 1,300 followers. Telegram hit 824 members. We ran an offline event in Bhopal with 216 attendees. Live #04 brought 80+ attendees online. We launched and completed the Regional Language Content Bounty (and increased the prize pool again). A developer meetup covered nodes, lightwallet infrastructure, and Zakura. We helped a local business register on ZecMap to accept Zcash payments. And we deployed independent light client infrastructure for Zcash in Mumbai. Here’s the full breakdown.

X tripled since the last update, going from 390 to 1,310. The Bhopal event, the regional content bounty, and the infrastructure announcement all drove massive organic reach. Telegram crossed 800 with steady growth from event attendees and bounty participants. Still zero paid promotion since day one.
Zcash Community Connect: Bhopal Edition
Our latest offline event. 216 attendees showed up in Bhopal.
What happened on the ground:
Full Zcash workshop covering fundamentals, ZK proofs, shielded vs transparent transactions, and why financial privacy matters
Every attendee created a wallet using Zodl during the session
We distributed ZEC to attendees’ wallets so they could experience a real shielded transaction firsthand
Attendees submitted their wallet addresses on the spot
High energy throughout the event with strong engagement from the audience
216 people walked in, most of them hearing about Zcash for the first time. They walked out with wallets, real ZEC, and a genuine understanding of why privacy matters.
For context: Udaipur brought 192 students. Vadodara brought 229. Bhopal brought 216. Every single offline event delivers 190+ attendees because the format works.
Zcash India Live #04 (80+ Attendees)
Our fourth monthly online community event. 80+ attendees joined live.
We covered community updates, ecosystem news, bounty announcements, and continued our educational format around Zcash fundamentals and privacy.
KPI check: Target is 65+ live attendees per online event. Live #01: 77. Live #02: 70+. Live #03: 82. Live #04: 80+. Four for four.
This is our second developer-focused event. Community events bring awareness. Developer events bring builders. We are continuing to invest in this track.
$150 Regional Language Content Bounty: Completed (Increased to $200)
We launched a first-of-its-kind bounty this month: educational Zcash content in Indian regional languages. Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Punjabi, Rajasthani, and more.
There is almost zero crypto privacy content in Indian regional languages anywhere on the internet. Our community just started changing that.
The submissions were so strong that we increased the prize pool from $150 to $200. This is the fourth bounty in a row where we had to increase the prize pool because the community over-delivered.
This month we achieved a milestone we have been working towards. We motivated a local vendor to accept Zcash payments and helped them register their business on ZecMap.
Raj NX Mobiles is now officially listed on ZecMap as a Zcash-accepting business. The submission was reviewed and approved.
This is the first time Zcash India has directly helped a real-world business start accepting ZEC and get listed on the global Zcash merchant map. We are not just building awareness. We are building adoption.
Light Client Infrastructure: Community-Run Node in Mumbai
We deployed independent light client infrastructure for Zcash. A live, wallet-usable lightwalletd node running in Mumbai, fully open-source, with a public status page.
This is not a test. This is production infrastructure that wallets can connect to right now.
The goal is to build a network of community-run nodes across Asia. Zcash’s decentralization depends on independent infrastructure operators, not just the core team running everything. Zcash India is now one of those operators.
What’s Working
Six months of execution. The compounding is visible in every metric.
Offline events keep delivering. Udaipur (192), Vadodara (229), Bhopal (216). Every single event creates wallets, distributes ZEC, and converts attendees into community members. The format is proven.
Bounties keep scaling. Memes (22 submissions), videos (24 submissions), meetups (14 hosts), and now regional language content (27 submissions). Each bounty format is more ambitious than the last, and we have increased the prize pool four times in a row because the community keeps over-delivering.
We entered into infrastructure and adoption. Running a lightwalletd node and getting a business on ZecMap are not community management activities. These are direct contributions to Zcash’s infrastructure and real-world adoption. That is a meaningful shift from where we started.
X tripled in one month. From 390 to 1,310 with zero paid promotion. The content, events, and bounties compound into reach.
What’s Next
Zcash India Live #05 in planning
Next offline event being planned for another key city

Telegram grew 62% in a single month, jumping from 824 to 1,332. The Surat offline event and Mini Meetup Bounty #2 were the biggest drivers. X crossed 1,500. And we started @zcashind on Instagram as a voluntary contribution, not part of any KPI or requirement. We just saw an opportunity and took it. Still zero paid promotion since day one.
Zcash Community Connect: Surat Edition
160 attendees showed up in Surat. 150+ of them created brand new Zodl wallets on the spot.
High energy from start to finish
160 people walked in knowing nothing about Zcash. They walked out with wallets, real ZEC, and a genuine understanding of why privacy matters.
After-movie:
For context: Udaipur (192), Vadodara (229), Bhopal (216), Surat (160). Four offline events, four cities, 797 total attendees. Every single one of them walked away with a Zodl wallet and real ZEC.
NEAR Legion x Zcash India: Ahmedabad (Volunteer Contribution)
This was not part of any grant deliverable. We did this on our own.
We collaborated with NEAR Legion to host a joint event in Ahmedabad. 50+ attendees showed up. The focus was on CrossPay and how NEAR Intents enable private cross-chain payments from shielded ZEC.
50+ new Zodl wallets were created at this event. Attendees got hands-on experience with the wallet and understood the developer landscape around Zcash and NEAR.
Event post:
This is Zcash India building partnerships and driving adoption.
Zcash India Live #05 (83 Attendees)
Our fifth monthly online community event. 83 attendees joined live. The session covered the Ironwood network upgrade and the latest Zcash ecosystem updates.
KPI check: Target is 65+ live attendees per online event. Live #01: 77. Live #02: 70+. Live #03: 82. Live #04: 80+. Live #05: 83. Five for five.
Announcement:
Developer Workshop #03
Our third developer-focused event. This was a curated session with selected community members, going deeper into the Zcash developer ecosystem.
What was covered:
Zodl wallet and its privacy-first architecture with shielded transactions by default, including CrossPay via NEAR Intents
ZecMap progress: India now has 5 active business listings accepting ZEC
Ramp Labs (@0xramplabs): non-custodial on/off-ramp for ZEC and other assets via UPI, currently in open beta
Zapp (@JustZappIt): peer-to-peer encrypted messenger with an integrated shielded Zcash wallet and local currency support
ZecHub bounties and how to contribute
Mini Meetups Bounty covering Ironwood and Zakura
Event thread:
Three developer events done. Each one goes deeper. The goal is to build a pipeline of Indian developers who understand Zcash infrastructure well enough to contribute.
$150 Mini Meetup Bounty #2: Completed
We ran the second edition of our Mini Meetup Bounty this month. Every meetup was required to cover two specific topics: Ironwood (NU6.3) and Zakura.
12 community members hosted real, in-person Zcash meetups in their own cities. Colleges, cafes, co-working spaces. Each host had to ensure at least 4 attendees with 50% new to Zcash, show Ironwood or Zakura on screen, and post with Zcash India branding.
Last month we helped register the first business on ZecMap. This month, the number grew to 5.
India now has 5 active business listings on ZecMap accepting ZEC as payment. This is real-world adoption happening on the ground, driven entirely by Zcash India’s outreach.
Post:
We are not just talking about adoption. We are making it happen, one merchant at a time.
Light Client Infrastructure: Still Running, Still Ours
Our independent lightwalletd node in Mumbai continues to run. Live, wallet-usable, fully open-source, with a public status page.
The associated grant proposal was declined by ZCG. We kept the infrastructure running anyway, on our own, as a voluntary contribution to the Zcash network. We will continue maintaining it and plan to expand with more technical innovations.
Status page:
Source code:
Zcash’s decentralization depends on independent infrastructure operators. Zcash India is one of them, grant or no grant.
Zodl Hindi Localization PR (Volunteer Contribution)
We raised a Hindi language localization pull request for the Zodl Android wallet. This would make Zodl accessible to 600 million+ Hindi speakers.
Pull request:
The PR is currently open and under review. This is another voluntary contribution, not part of any deliverable or KPI.
What’s Working
After seven months of steady work, a few things are holding up well.
Community growth
Telegram grew from 824 to 1,332 this month, without paid ads or incentives designed to inflate numbers. Most of the growth came from events, bounties, and people joining after seeing the work firsthand.
Events
The offline event format is now consistent enough to repeat. Across four cities we have had 797 attendees and hundreds of Zodl wallets created. Including the joint event with NEAR Legion in Ahmedabad, attendance comes to 847. The structure is simple, and it has been reliable so far.
Voluntary contributions
A few pieces of work sat outside any formal requirement: keeping the light client infrastructure running after the related grant was declined, opening a Hindi localization PR for Zodl, launching Instagram, and collaborating with NEAR Legion. These were done because they were useful for Zcash locally.
Merchant adoption
Five businesses in India are now listed on ZecMap as accepting ZEC. That is still a small number, but it is concrete, people can pay with ZEC at those locations.
Local organizers
Twelve hosts ran their own meetups on Ironwood and Zakura. That matters because the work is no longer limited to the core team being in the room.
None of this is finished. What is working is the combination of a repeatable event format, practical tooling, and community members who are starting to run things on their own.
What’s Next
Planning something big and focus on major presence at Devcon 8
Expansion of light client infrastructure
Zcash India Live #06
offline events in a new city
Developer Workshop #04, with deeper technical content
A new bounty program to grow local contribution
A YouTube channel for Zcash India. For public education channel for explainers, event recordings, and content in local languages
Continued merchant outreach to grow ZEC acceptance on ZecMap
Completion of the Zodl Hindi localization
A stronger, more consistent Instagram presence
Seven months in:
Five online events (77, 70+, 82, 80+, 83),
Three developer workshops,
Five offline events (847+ total attendees across five cities),
Six bounty programs completed,
1,536 X followers, 1,332 Telegram members,
Instagram Channel launched,
Independent light client infrastructure running in Mumbai,
5 businesses on ZecMap,
A Hindi localization PR for Zodl,
And a NEAR Legion collaboration.
We are accelerating and this is just the beginning!
Thanks for following along. Feedback always welcome!
I’d say building privacy tools in India or spreading awareness about tech is way too hard. First, very few percent of people really cares about privacy, government will never allow this. Especially the system which is running the country will be distorted if privacy based technologies arise as everyone wants to milk via this system
Thanks Josh! Not all Gujarat, we’ve been moving around a fair bit:
Madhya Pradesh: Indore (~184 attendees) and Bhopal (216) Rajasthan: Udaipur (192) Gujarat: Vadodara (229), Surat (160, with 150+ new Zodl wallets created on the day), and Ahmedabad with NEAR Legion (50+)
And yes, Mumbai is next, on two fronts.
We run a university workshop and community connect every month, and the next one is in Maharashtra, ahead of Devcon. Same format we’ve used everywhere else: wallets created live, ZEC distributed on the spot, hands-on rather than a lecture.
We’re also planning a full-day Zcash event in Mumbai during Devcon week. It’s taking shape now and we’d genuinely like ZODL involved in some form. Happy to share the plan once it’s firmer.
One thing I’d value your help with. We have an open PR adding Hindi to Zodl: 1,051 strings across all five translatable resource files, plus the locale wiring (resourceConfigurations in all three gradle blocks, locales_config.xml, getPreferredLocale(), and ChangelogParser).
It’s been open since 20 August. CI hasn’t been triggered on it yet, which I think is the fork workflow-approval step, and there’s no reviewer assigned. Who would be the right person to loop in? Happy to rebase or split it up however the team prefers.
No Zcash wallet currently ships an Indian language. Would be a good thing to fix before Devcon lands in Mumbai.
Quick follow-up @joshs - the Mumbai plan is now live. Grant application and full write-up here:
The Zodl booth doubles as the funding desk for the whole event, so it sits right at the centre of the day. Would be great to have ZODL involved in whatever form works for you.
To be clear on one thing: everything is costed within the proposal and we are not asking ZODL for any funding. Our team staffs the booth by default. The invitation is purely about presence - someone from your team on it if anyone is in Mumbai, or just your input and materials if not.
