and thank you very much for the update, there is a huge effort in place from ECC and the actions you are putting in place are very promising.
Sorry for the noob question, could you please just ELI5 what is DAG sync and how it works ?
One thing that I suggest it to make this information public as an ECC blog post and twitter thread, there currently is a lot of FUD on Zcash and everybody is asking what the team is doing to improve this. (maybe @januszgrze is the right person to address this?)

I upgraded my wallet to v1.8.3
Zcashd is running & synced
Opened the wallet to error: No accounts. Please run âzcashd-wallet-toolâ to create your wallet firstâŚ
It is the same config & wallet.dat & you can see easily its being read with the DB folder & wallet.dat
Any suggestions until that is fix is appreciated

This has to do with the new account model features. Moving forward all addresses will be derived inside of named or numbered accounts and older addy generation methods considered legacy. In this case the suggested course of action would be to send your funds held in legacy addresses to your newly generated account UA address and essentially migrate away from your old wallet. You could also create a new account and then import the private keys of your old addresses alongside your new account.
zcashd-wallet-tool is not used for wallet creation; instead, what it does is ensures that youâve backed up the walletâs seed phrase, which is used for the derivation of all new keys in the wallet.
Prior to zcashd 4.7.0, the zcashd internal wallet did not use BIP 39 derivation from a mnemonic seed for backup; instead, it was necessary in most circumstances to back up the whole wallet.dat file. After 4.7.0, all wallets use a mnemonic phrase to generate the seed for key and address generation; in order to ensure that users have backed up this phrase, the wallet is disabled by default until the user uses zcashd-wallet-tool to confirm this backup. It is also possible, though not recommended, to run zcashd with -walletrequirebackup=false if you want to explicitly skip this check. See the âEmergency Recovery Phrasesâ section of Release v4.7.0 ¡ zcash/zcash ¡ GitHub for more detail.

Thank you for the reply like everything it DID NOT WORK
I ran -exportdir & it created the file. Its in the folder
I stopped & restarted zcashd like it says

Do I have to trigger a manual rescan?? It still does not detect the wallet.dat nor its backup?
UPDATE: I confirmed 100% the backup file seed created is my keys compared to a backup done in 2019 & my wallet.dat
I triggered a manual rescan & again its hitting my dat file every 3 - 4 min now
It takes about 30 hours⌠keep you posted
If this fails, I will try YWallet unless someone knows of a reason I should not.

I tried it with ZecWalletLite & Linux full node server. I have 2 Z secret keys that are not found on ANY OTHER METHOD OR WALLET
I ran the exportdir & zcash tool & it did exactly what it was supposed to except see my wallet.dat & open the UI

Did you try out Ywallet? It runs in Windows pretty well.
TYVM Iâll be honest I am scared to trust it. It has only been downloaded 500+ times.
Dont get me wrong I am about to cave in & try.
I was so discouraged when the scan did not work in ZecWalletLite I just figured if it couldnât find it, I doubt YWallet could?
Lite did find 2 of the 4 balances.

Iâm not pressuring you into trying ywallet if you donât want to certainly but a lot of people in the community use it, I being one of them, and that 500 only accounts for Android downloads and not from the Microsoft store or Apple App Store which I didnât check And at the very least if it works you could send from Ywallet to your preferred syncâd up zecwallet lite.

LMAO at the end of 5 MONTHS of me trying to get my MONEY back⌠it was Y Wallet that got me my funds.
It was a little quirky but 100% BETTER THAN ANYTHING ZCASH IS OFFERRING
I entered the secret keys, it found the funds & I immediately moved the funds to a hardware wallet.
TYVM for suggesting. I wish I had tried earlier.
If anyone else is cautious or a skeptic of YWallet⌠I can confirm it did work correctly & it got MY MONEY BACK.
I am out of ZCash & prepare for social media fallout. It will be relentless & international by the time we are done with this junk project.
Dont get in the asset business if you cant get people THEIR ASSETS!!

Agreed. Zcash has consistently disappointed.

No offense, but Ywallet was suggested as a solution 1.5 months ago. Ywallet has also worked the entire time the blockchain has been bloating. Itâs the recommended wallet on z.cash for some time now as well. It has also received over 400k in funding from the Zcash community since majority recognize it is best wallet.
Yes, the issues causing degraded UX are frustrating, but Iâm pretty sure it is due to fundamental engineering challenges, not some sort of gross negligence.
There is no need for some smear campaign - what are you going to say? That increased blockchain size has made Zcash UX (besides Ywallet) poor for a lot of users? People have already said that - itâs not some hidden fact. And people have already pointed to Ywallet as the solution (x.com). That the community has been trying to help you despite your inflammatory tone? I mean feel free to say what you want, but this feels like someone who had a bad experience at a restaurant and is now going to leave 10 different 1 star Yelp reviews.

Also, FWIW, I agree that if Zcash is trying to be money, it has to be available to users at all times, which is why I supported the funding of Ywallet.

Yes, Ywallet is good, but as the title of this thread is âZcashâs current performance issues are frustratingâ, I think itâs perfectly fair game to voice frustrations like this.
Zcash is not Bitcoin. It wasnât as early. In 6 years or whatever, it hasnât become a household name as much as the people behind it want you to think would like. And itâs got a sort of untrustworthy history filled (hopefully) with inaccuracies that other communities use to recruit to theirs.
You can spend all the money in the world on âgood techâ, but if people arenât using it for its primitive use case (private money), then the attention needs to be spent addressing that problem before itâs too late.
Once that window of opportunity closes itâs hard to play catch up. Or maybe we just need to wait 30 years until weâre all dead and then the joke is on us, I guess?
The ECC simply hasnât delivered and these grandiose tweets they put out are so out of touch with the reality of the project (itâs a ghost town look at the Twitter activity).
Cypherpunk giveaways are more important for adoption it seems!

They had to give them away because the volume was abysmal. Itâs just jokes all around, honestly. No wonder Zcash has such a tarnished reputation.
