ZecHub Monthly Updates

Hello everyone! Here is the report of ZecHub’s activity this month.

Major Achievements

Project Updates

  • Important Note: Bounties for Global Translations are stopping. The project will however continue to issue bounties for Translated Newsletters & Blogs.

  • We released new videos to the ‘Zcash Explained’ series. If you have suggestions for topics you would like to see next, please do comment.

  • Our focus on media is showing with steady growth of the Youtube Channel. Zcashd tutorials and Shorts were among the most popular content on the channel. We are interested in joining more platforms.

  • Our DAO site now accessible from the Wiki. Portfolio is being worked on.

  • Weekly operations meetings have been great for gathering ideas and feedback. We have had some issues getting usable recordings this month however. Meetings are held on Tuesdays in the Zcash Global discord.

Community Contributors

  • @Hardaeborla has set up a substack, Yoruba Newsletters + Blog posts available for Nigerian Zcashers available soon

  • The #design channel in discord is now open to all community members that wish to submit designs.

  • The Swahili wiki saw the most progress this month. We encourage any volunteers to help with translations!

  • The videos produced by @thedesertlynx were very well received. We are looking forward to sharing more.

  • Wiki edit permissions are now available to Global Ambassadors and members of ZFAV who want to make any changes.

  • Thank You to the Global Ambassadors who have continued to diligently translate the weekly newsletters!

Planned Next Steps

  • Media content - Video Tutorials, Shorts & Guides are the center of our efforts moving forward.

  • Launch of ZecHub Extras

  • Launch of Merch Store

  • More technical guides for zcashd & lightwalletd to be released.

  • Work on products & events to be offered with our patronage/subscription NFT are ongoing. Some elements are almost ready and will become available first.

  • A new landing page is being drafted.

  • ZecHub will feature during a presentation at Zcon4.

Very interested to hear community suggestions!

ZecHub continues to grow and the community is kept informed and learning through the educational material that continues to be generated.

It is a pleasure to continue supporting ZecHub so that all Zcashers know more about Zcash and financial privacy.

I’m already waiting for ZecHub’s intervention in the Zcon4, it will surely be excellent. :sunglasses::+1:

I just want to give a massive shoutout to ZecHub core contributers @squirrel @dismad and @tokidoki. They all have been doing incredible work.

+100 on that. Those friends need a round of applause and a vacation.

One more, almost personal bit of feedback: The ZecHub team, especially @squirrel and @dismad are putting in work in the ZFAV channels and events. I believe they are doing that so they can do what they do better and they are teaching me along the way, as well. Or they are simply obsessed with Zcash communities and I totally get that.

June KPI’s are in.

Highlights:

  • Biggest increase was in YouTube subscribers, and GitHub Forks and PR’s
  • The Twitter followers, YouTube subscribers, Newsletter subscribers, GitHub Forks, and DeWork member categories have always had a postive increase since measurement started
  • Big call out is Twitter Monthly impressions are down – this surprised me and wonder if its due to the bear market or perhaps something else we could improve on.
  • Most popular podcast video is the brand new ZecHub 1 Year anniversary with @squirrel and @januszgrze . This is clear evidence Podcast style content is popular and in demand.
    • Most popular HOWTO videos:

Zcashd Wallet Tool - Generate & Import Private Key
      Zcash Explained: Bitcoin’s Fungibility Problem
      Access your ZEC in Ywallet

    • Most popular shorts:

      The Increasing Value of Privacy
Why Brazil Now invests in Zcash

  • Should be noted some of the shorts were not highlighted by ZecHub yet, and are still gaining traction
  • Top contributors to our Github this month include:TurquoiseJay, fog254,mykemaison, autotunafish, Zoz3, Jahlexis, and Hardaeborla.
  • Top Tweet this month is comparing and contrasting different blockchain technologies.
  • Should be noted these videos were streamlined by @thedesertlynx and Dash’s Dan S.. This type of cross community collaboration is exactly what ZecHub is all about. :fire:

I’d also like to point out a survey we conducted about social media. I will let the community decide how to interpret the results, but it seems we have a long way to go to capture new users using only highly decentralized social media. :hot_pepper: :owl: @jelly5649

BlockSurvey_-_Social_Media_Results.pdf (145.5 KB)

note: The other category was mostly Free2Z users! :heart_on_fire: :heart_on_fire: :heart_on_fire:

Thank you :zebra:

First, thank you for the initiative of the survey, great idea.

A few key details though:

  1. The argument never was about using only highly decentralized social media. Instead, it is about having a presence in those, to show that we actually care about fundamental principles that are pillars in our ecosystem. Decentralization is undoubtedly one. Obviously, we must stay in centralized medias as well, given most people don’t yet understand the importance of privacy, and by extension, the importance of Zcash.

  2. Unfortunately the questions asked in the survey were such that even I couldn’t select any decentralized platform in any question. I think that’s a bit of a failure. “Which Social Media Platform do you use most to communicate with the ZecHub community?” Sure I the forum, because that’s where most of the communication is happening, today. “Which would you prefer to use?” Well, the forum is the best, “we” control every aspect of it (moderation is important!) and it is longer form communication, which I much prefer to shorter form generally found on social medias.

  3. It’s not even necessary relevant what the forum / Twitter community thinks of reasonably decentralized social media platforms. I won’t spend time to explain again why we should be there, instead I’ll ask: why do you think Monero has been there for ages?

Congratulations to all the ZecHub core group that makes this possible!
