First Rig - please help me :)

Hello BTC Community

i decided to join the mining world and start with gpu mining.

Budget: around 10k€ (but i want to spend it “slow”)
my Plan: i was thinking to build my first mining rig, configure it, optimize all settings and see how it goes. If it fits my expectations i will stock up.
electricity cost: 16 cent/khW (i might switch my provider wich will safe me around 1-2 cent)

MOBA: ASUS Prime Z270-P 121€

GPU:
6 x 1080 TI, 747,67 €
After long thinking, researching, planning, Exeling i desiced to go definitely NVIDIA. I have to say that actualy i would like to go on 6 x 1080 TI. (room space, heat, resale value and so on…) but here comes the Problem → PSU, Watt.

To be honest I am really not sure that i will use the stock 250W for mining so i will undervolt/clock and see how it goes. On the other side if i have such powerfull GPUs i want to try different Settings soi need enough power.

What options do i have here? 2 x PSU? Does it make sense? Is it possible that i might get difficulty here? (Driver problems, and so on?)

PSU: Corsair HX Series HX1200 80PLUS Platinum 1200W ATX 2.4 203,29 € or
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 1300 1300W ATX 2.3 299,00 €

CPU: Intel Pentium G4400, 2x 3.30GHz, boxed (1151) 54,24 €
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury blue DIMM 8GB, DDR3-1600, CL10 61,50 €
SSD: SanDisk Plus 120GB, SATA Interface: SATA 6Gb/s • Read: 530MB/s • Write: 400MB/s 55,99 €
Case: i was thinking to make something like that [url]How to build your 6gpu ethereum mining rig OPEN AIR frame for mining ether! - YouTube

Thanks

U will need two PSU’s because 1 x 1080 Ti draw 300W/card with overclock

I see, can you please advise me some good 2 x psu?

EVGA SuperNOVA G2 1600 1600W 331€
Corsair Professional Series Titanium 1500W 423€ will also not work?

I’ve had several conversation with people I consider veterans in mining about rigs to build and as of May 2017 this is probably one of the best ways to go. This CAN change at any minute with new cards, software changes and etc. So if you’re reading this more than 30 days after this is posted, consider it outdated information!

My thoughts on this:
Mobo - the TB250 - BTC by Biostar

6x 1070 318.99 € newegg uk (each) (you can two for below the power needs of a single 1080ti and get more H/s)

If you are worried about heat!
6x 1070 water cooled newegg uk is $349.99 € each (unsure of power but less heat 1080ti and more H/s for less money)

cpu, just make sure it fits the socket of Mobo suggested, but its fine

Ram - fine

ssd - fine (don’t forget o/s)

PSU and this is just a sugesstion [Hercules 1600w gold std power supply]
(Rosewill 1600W Modular Gaming Power Supply, Continuous @ 50 Degree C, 80 PLUS GOLD Certified, SLI & CrossFire Ready - HERCULES-1600S - Newegg.com) @256.99

6x - 1080ti = roughly 4,500 H/s at a cost of (cards only) $4,488 €
6x - 1070 (air cooled) = 2,700 H/s at a cost of (cards only) 1,914 € 6x - 1070 (watercooled- LESS HEAT) = 2760 H/s at a cost of (cards only) 2,100 €

In case this needs even more explaining:
You can build x2 1070 air cooled COMPLETE rigs, for less than a single 1080ti and have on average 700 more H/s

You can build x2 1070 water cooled systems for around the same price as a single 1080ti system with more H/s

Where are you getting those hashing rates from?

1080ti o/c’d does about 750 ish
1070 o/c’d does about 450ish
1070 water o’c is a guess but it appears everything water cooled runs at least 20 h/s minimum faster than the air cooled version.

If you asking how do I know what hash rates that those cards will do, experience, these forums, conversations with other veteran miners, YouTube video’s, and bitcointalk.org

Oh shit, I didn’t see the multiplier in front :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been thinking about designing a two-phase liquid cooling rackmount system, that way I can spread the cost out over 8 cards. But it’s a PITA and a gallon of the stuff costs $400. Still cheaper dedicated coolers, but not by much.

If I had time, I would create a site where people could add their stats and a cost calculator.

Hi guys and thx for your replies!

Well here where i leave (austria) the price are bit different. A watercooled 1070 gtx is about 530€. 1080 ti is around 650€ so i will stick to it

I heared from people that 1600W should be more than enough for 6 x 1080TI. I guess i will go for that option and pray that the power will be enough

May I ask where do you get corsair hx1200i for 203€? Thanks!

I like the hash rates but whats the power consumption at the wall with stock and custom ROMs?

Hi! I’m also Austrian  Where do you get the 1080 ti for 650€? Smallest price at geizhals i can see is about 680€.
I want to start mining with a small setup (only one 1080 ti for now).

does cpu matter formining with6x 1080ti?

Not really. I do use G4400 in my rigs. Average utilization is around 5%.

does cpu affect at all mining rig performance? and have you tried mining with 6x 1080ti?

@drx3brun is correct, I have a 2 core celeron in one with 7 fury’s and no issues at all,
