Referring to the US$ prices nothing as the US$ price is at least to 90% predicted by BTC. Means if BTC goes to 20k the ZEC price could be US$ 300 for example, if BTC goes down to 1000 US$ the ZEC price could be just US$5 (just examples). Hence whatever USD/ZEC technical analyzing you do, it’s all up to BTC so far. Unfortunatly of course.
The rest of the article has some good points i personally fully agree with like:
In addition, there are many other privacy coins on the market with features that Zcash is lacking, and new privacy-based protocols like Mimblewimble are emerging.
As well, Ethereum has already experimented with the introduction of zk-SNARKs. Other cryptocurrencies might also follow suit—lessening the novelty of Zcash
In short, as more privacy coins emerge on the market, Zcash may face increased competition over the long term
This competitive advantage is not likely to be permanent. For example, Ethereum integrated zk-SNARK technology into its network during the Byzantium hard fork. Other cryptocurrencies might do so as well.
If a number of cryptocurrencies emerge with zk-SNARKs and other innovative features, then the competitive advantage of Zcash is expected to diminish significantly.
==> One of my main concerns, more and more competition, more and more coins adding privacy features (be it zk-snarks or others) and on our side nothing innovative on the horizont expect some bolt that won’t be enough to make a bigger difference with all the other protocols/features upcoming/emerging.
In other words, Gemini’s listing of Zcash in accordance with NY State regulations is an accomplishment that should not be understated.
==> Principally i agree, unfortunatly without any volume there it doesn’t matter much. Without liquidity and demand the ~100k volume on gemini don’t give us a real bonus, or better the reward the gemini listing deserves.
However, the incentive created by the Founder’s Reward will inevitably end leading to possible stagnation of Zcash’s development… The problem is that four years is not a very long time. While Wilcox might consider this the “long haul,” Zcash mining will continue until at least 2032—12 years after the Founder’s Reward ends. Without a consistent source of profit for contributing to the health, maintenance, and well-being of the Zcash network, continued development may stagnate.
==> Absolutly agree with this one, another main concern i have. Even more i’am not aware of ANY plan things will continue in 1.5 year when the founders reward ends. Thx to Zcash i realized how important this is and today it’s one of the main factors while investigating/considering a given project.
Seriously, i have no idea how development at the same pace without funds could continue for longer other than on a level like a the other small projects that are based/funded on community contribution & donations only.
1.5 years may sound a long period, believe me, it’s not. In my opinion neither the foundation is and will be prepared in 1.5 years nor the development in the next 2 years (according due my knowledge) will be enough to have a top notch competive finished product available than. But who knows, maybe some devs can put something out of the magical hat
By late 2020, the prevention of exploitation may be left up to members of the Zcash community, not the Electric Coin Company. If stagnation does occur and vulnerabilities exist as zk-SNARKs are integrated into other cryptocurrencies, Zcash’s popularity, success, and growth could begin diminishing by the early 2020s.
This and the risk that bigger stake holders/investos may dump their holdings around that time. I have witnessed on several projects this to happen when funding stops and/or not enough funds are available. Just normally that an investor/big bag holder may exit due the risk of low development/vulnerbilites/similars.
There are many other cryptocurrencies which integrate other privacy-based innovations into the blockchain. … Furthermore, Grin and Beam were developed using the Mimblewimble protocol. Members of the Litecoin Foundation has also announced the possibility of integrating Mimblewimble into Litecoin via a soft fork.
Privacy coins may have once been a novelty, but now some of the biggest cryptocurrencies including Ethereum and Litecoin are integrating privacy-based innovations. This is in addition to the many competitors which already exist.
In short, while Zcash has been able to demonstrate the success of zk-SNARKs and may develop sign-value within leftist organizations and social movements, it will only prove long-term vitality if it is able to demonstrate sufficient superiority over or differentiation from its competitors.
Absolutly agree. Every coin can just integrate ZEC or other privacy tech. Today and tomorrow we need a bit more than just this privacy feature which the biggest shitcoin can implent/adapt in 30 minutes…
