We’re working on support in Zashi + Keystone for recovering funds from Ledger seed phrases (or Zashi directly if you choose to take the seed phrase online). It will hopefully be in a release in the next couple of weeks.
I feel you.
My suggestion to the “ZF/ECC community” would be that given you have initially recommended to use Ledger, which is now in shamble, maybe take it easy with telling where ZEC users should store their tokens next.
More specifically, I know that the Keystone wallet is great and has been thoroughly audited. But it also has very little history. Personally, I won’t be changing wallet (Trezor, currently) until there are at least two decent hardware wallet options supporting shielded transactions, with one having at least three years of pristine history.
This matters for the depreciation of t-addrs as well as for governance/voting.
I reproduced this on my own device I’m working with Ledger engineers to provide them logs and more info.
Please keep us updated. I would really like to know how the recovery went.
I exported the logs from Ledger Live and they are not privacy minded at all.
You can use https://live.ledger.tools/logsviewer to help you filter out just the apdus and export those. But this is still an online tool you need to trust.
Ledger engineers provided instructions to build this site and run it offline
You can indeed by following those steps:
- clone the ledger live monorepo (GitHub - LedgerHQ/ledger-live: Mono-repository for packages related to Ledger Live and its JavaScript ecosystem.)
- the webtools will be there: ledger-live/apps/web-tools/README.md at c67b88ab966b1d6cb99046ee5870c7e72c5c1073 · LedgerHQ/ledger-live · GitHub and can be run locally
I couldn’t build this. The README instructions did not work for me. Maybe because I’m running it on ARM64 (this happens on some next.js projects). So instead of going into a rabbit hole I just hacked a simple python script to grab all APDU log entries.
I was able to recover my ZEC with a new trezor. Their app automatically searched all used addresses for the recovery seed across a variety of cryptocurrencies upon setup. Was very straightforward.
i have same problem. I tried a lot of thins but not resolved.
I have Ledger Nano X. I cannot send my ZEC funds other wallets and anywhere.
Ledger Live Version : 2.104.0 (Latest)
Nano X OS Version : 2.4.2 (Latest)
When i tried send my zecs get error Device Disconnected. I uploaded the error screen shot.
My ZECs are stuck in wallet. I dont want buy trezor or give recovery phrase to other hot wallets
I insalled ZecWallet on windows. ZecWallet cannot connect ledger. Can i resolve it with ZecWallet?
I wrote Ledger Support , hope they can resolv it soon. Please keep us updated.
I might be wrong, but I think you get this error when you try to move ZEC that hasn’t been transacted for 2 years or longer. I was able to transfer my ZEC that has transactions during the last year, but with my oldest coins I get the same error. As far as I know Ledger is not planning to fix this, unfortunately. But let’s hope they will change their mind on this.
What have you read to support this claim? This issue is relatively fresh, I personally haven’t seen any relavent news.
I’m not saying that I know for definite. I might be wrong, but someone on this forum wrote that they’ve spoken with Ledger support about this issue and their response was that for the time being they are not planning to fix this. I truly hope otherwise.
When I tried to transfer my ZEC from Ledger to Binance, the Binance deposit address started with "tex" and it said the address was incorrect and couldn't be transferred. Is there any way to solve this? It's really inconvenient not being able to transfer to exchanges for trading. Does anyone have any solutions?
Is your Binance deposit address a tex address? If so, Ledger does not support withdrawals to tex addresses. As a workaround, install Zashi, send your ZEC from Ledger to Zashi, and then send from Zashi to your Binance address.
You can also convert the address types between transparent and tex with js
it’s a shame that it is not possible to send ZEC from the biggest HW Wallet Company to the biggest Exchange in the Industry ![]()
I deployed a little website from that script. It will convert tex to taddy and vice versa. I’ve tested a number of addresses and it all passed, though feel free to test it yourself. I don’t have much experience with hosting (this is free) and DNS so that website name may or may not ever change, I’ll letya know.
Thank you very much for your solution. Today, during testing, I transferred one ZEC from Ledger to my Zashi wallet. When I directly selected to send it to the Binance address, it showed the amount was zero. After converting it to a blocked ZEC, the amount was displayed and I could continue the process, but it kept failing to send to the Binance address. Sometimes it showed a failure message, and sometimes it just kept showing “sending”. Could you please confirm whether it’s possible to transfer to a Binance TEX address using the Zashi wallet? Or are there any specific tutorials you could provide? Thank you very much.
Sometimes it showed a failure message, and sometimes it just kept showing “sending”.
This kind of sounds like it could be the device not being able to make the transaction?
(I removed the ‘’’ s to make it more readable)
Yes, I can confirm it’s possible to transfer ZEC to a Binance tex address using Zashi.
I don’t think there’s a demo that shows the step-by-step process, but below are a couple resources ECC provided a while back that describe how it works.
Did you shield the ZEC on Zashi or is it held in the t-address you originally transferred it to? I believe you need to shield the ZEC first.
I don’t have a TEX address on Binance to test with myself, so if these resources don’t resolve the issue and you still can’t complete the transfer, let me know and I can connect you with someone who can help.
I have held ZCash on my Ledger for many years. Maybe since 2018 or so. I have never transacted and wanted to send a few to an exchange. The Binance deposit address was shown as “not a valid ZCash address’“. I then also installed YWallet and tried to send it to a transparent address on YWallet, but then Ledger just shows “loading” forever and I can’t send a transaction.
From reading the posts here, it sounds like Ledger is just broken. I see people mention Trezor and Keystone.
Have people imported seedphrases in these wallets successfully and then are able to transact?
What are the advantages / disadvantages of Trezor vs Keystone?
Once I’ve set up a Trezor or Keystone, are there particular software wallets that connect to these hardware wallets that are the best to use?
