Tuesday evening and still nothing.
I really dont understand how Ledger is neglecting the importance of this. A lot of funds are stuck and they are doing nothing urgently about it. Is this so called ‘safety of funds’? A cold wallet should be a way to manage your crypto without being limited, this feels more like an exchange freezing your funds. Is there nothing we can do about this…?
Everyone affected by this should reach out to them and complain. If they still do nothing I’m afraid there isn’t much to do other than moving your funds to another wallet.
Saying that funds are stuck in Ledger is a over dramatization. Ledger does not have your seed phrase, therefore they cannot block your funds.
This is not the same as an exchange by any means. And that’s why we should be keep custody of our keys.
Well, sadly enough, this whole ordeal has costed me my job. I was the one to propose using Ledger as HW for cold storage, since I considered it the safest option amongs the available.
I got my dismissal letter this morning due to having implemented insufficient or defective safety protocols for our managed funds. I have lost 5 years of severance. I am the sole developer of the first collateralized debt instrument ever for Bitcoin. 14 years of experience in the crypto space.
Thanks Ledger.
This sucks obviously, but the funds are still retrievable if you import the seed to another wallet no?
Well - you say you know better without any justification. Obviously you can have your opinion, but they are not facts. So why do you think funds are stuck?
The exchange you worked for, does not deserve to exist lol…
you obviously proposed the best thing to do
Not really. For example, on Ledger Live I can see the funds that I transferred during the network update period. I can still send funds but I can’t send them anywhere. The block appears as confirmed on the network. However, when I import the ywallett, I do not have all the funds there that are on Ledger.
Is this for a single transparent address? It could be because Ywallet is pre-calculating the fees which depends on how many notes you have.
That’s because Ledger, like Trust wallet and other transparent wallets use several derivation paths to generate different addresses. You have to use the sweep function so that Ywallet scans more than the first address.
Wow, thank you very much for your help, I have access to my funds
Whatever you do to protect your keys is none of my business.
But the funds are not stuck in the Ledger. Proof in point: @ddami just got them out. You may not like entering your HW seed phrase in a hot wallet (and neither do I). I would clear the Ledger of any other funds first, but as a last resort, it is possible to get your funds out, so they are not stuck.
It may a question of pragmatics, but IMO, it is important to use the right words.
My man, if I even remotely suggested to import the private key that holds dozens of millions of different assets under it, probably they’d think I was trying some kind of ruse to steal from them. Issue was we were using the device and its private key for everything else too, but we couldn’t move ZEC. This caused a withdrawal ordeal and in the process of responsibility attribution they decided I was to blame for it, because it was my idea to use this platform and not other HW.
Working in crypto space is cutthroat as hell. Never seen a working space with more ego driven people, most are just greedy crooks with no morals that enjoy making other people under them suffer.
And you know what else, I needed a heckin’ vacation. So in the end I’ll came out stronger of this all.
Thanks for the support also @SexDrugsAndZcash … It means a lot, I’ve self blamed a lot about this whole thing… I also thought so aswell, but well… they did not when the issue arised…
Reading this thread makes me feel like saying that @hanh has been an important contributor for Zcash. He is doing good things for us and we cannot blame him for what happens at Ledger.
Sure I also hope that the issue at Ledger gets resolved. I own a Nano myself but I am not in a hurry to sell any assets (and I can’t use Flexa where I live). So I don’t mind the current situation that much. Sorry for other users though.
It should be clear since the Ledger Recover debacle and Ledger Live being pretty much a spyware software that privacy is not their top priority.
Hmm I am not sure you even read what I write.
i had to convert it using a Mnemonic Code Converter then import it in ywallet. Your seedphrase is compromised after that ofcourse.
well that’s unnecessary violence.
you can get it out always. it’s just that your ledger is compromised afterwards. So first buy new HW wallet (not ledger) and then get them out
Could you please stop these cheap baseless statements? (I actually mostly agree with your position in this thread lol)
