Trying to move ZEC from Ledger Live

No fix expected until next week for Ledger users

The Ledger team have been “looking into it” for several days now:

Is it safe to use Ywallet? Is this the legit app to download?

Why doesn’t Zcash have a desktop wallet like Monero compatible with cold wallets? I mean why do we have to stick to Ledger live when we use Ledger with Zcash? It has been years Monero has its own software that supports ledger so we can use it without the need to use Ledger live. Why Zcash wants us to use software wallets only instead of safer cold wallets? The fault is of course due to Ledger too but the responsibility of this issue is shared. I hope Zcash will act too or I will not buy their coin in the future.

I work for an exchange. We literally can’t move almost half a million pounds in zec due to this issue. I would appreciate if they gave this issue the urgency it has.

Ledger has already self-destroyed at a PR and developer level. Let us see you are guys ready to stop the free fall by being at least minimally diligent.

Hi ledgeruser.

Welcome.

The Zashi wallet will be compatible with the Keystone hardware wallet soon. We’re also considering desktop support.

Yes but the older UI version that supported it wouldnt work without the updated consensus btanch id (I havent checked).

Hi Josh, may I know why with Keystone hardware wallet and not Trezor or Ledger? Monero has its software that supports Ledger for years and Dash had its online website that supports Ledger cold wallet without having to use the Ledger live software. Zcash is the only one that did not develop anything similar in years of existence and it does not look like it is willing to do so. I will not buy a separate cold wallet just to use zcash. Thanks

Simply that the Keystone team is active and willing to work with the Zcash developers. Often times trying to even get those other manufacturers to respond, implement private addresses or even update their software is like pulling teeth.

Look at the Ledger debacle happening right now. They didn’t update the app pre network update and now users funds are stuck until they release a fix.

A little cooperation goes a long way.

Hi guys.

Did you manage to solve this problem somehow? I can’t withdraw ZEC from Ledger to the exchange: I get the same error

sucks to have that happen im sorry

People using Trustwallet report the same issue. Zec community says it’s not out fault, ask your wallet provider to do an update like they tell for Ledger users. I never used another chain that handicapped its users so much after an upgrade. Thank you Zcash for this inconvenience. Now that nobody can sell, it should be easier to pump the price of the coin.

The code for the network update was published weeks before the update, it’s out of the Zcash developers control if certain wallets decide to pay attention or not.

and the wallets were noticed of the upgrade before. they for some reason didnt act on it tho :grimacing:

Talking about future plans with other hardware vendors to deflect that Ledger munched user funds doesn’t make ZEC look serious.

Almost a decade of eating inflation rewards - we owe a better experience to ZEC users than this.

imho, your blame belongs somewhere else. Please read this whole thread

You are barking up the wrong tree.

Zcash developers and community have been pushing for good Ledger core and shielded Zcash support for years. We even funded Zondax thousands of dollars to make it happen. Ledger keeps putting Zcash on the back burner and it’s the holders that are now paying for it.

I wouldn’t support a hardware manufacturer that did that to me.

Tried to soften my earlier response.

A desktop wallet that supports ledger & clear transactions would be fine and we’ve had almost a decade.

I have no idea why after the inflation rewards even this basic functionality is too much to ask. Ledger is what 90% of non BTC users use.

If we don’t care about adoption then it’s fine to be purist about ledger support.

I’ll prob be moving to Keystone - it’s always scary to trust something new even for seasoned users.

Ledger has fucked up on almost everything except adoption. Even so - they’ve saved tons of people from losing it all. Pushing those people back towards hot wallets is such a step back for our community & I’m sad to see it.

Relying on them to do the right thing vs making sure we did the right thing is going to fuck over a lot of people.

Yes (thx @dismad for the sreenshot)

They only want to work with “established” organizations, which, for all intents and purposes, means ZF or ECC, and Zondax.
Zondax will not attempt to rewrite the Rust code in C to make it work with the Ledger devices, which have very limited resources.
For example, I tweaked the assembly code by hand to make it fit the Nano S.

In the end, the users get an implementation that does not reflect the full potential of either Ledger hardware or Zcash protocol.
