WinZec is available (Zcash4win update)

The process is simple. Just uninstall previous wallet and install the new one. Here I found a guide that explains it.

You can easily move the datadir of this wallet. Just need to specify the path in config file. Here use this guide, there is clear instructions explaining about changing the data directory. It worked for me.

Thanks for all the answers previously.

Something else:

Is it possible to set proxy settings in WinZEC?

WinZEC v1.1.0 is now out and is Overwinter compatible :grinning: http://winzec.com/

This is an essential upgrade to continue using after Overwinter activation on block 347500 (around June 25th) Overwinter - Zcash.

No, the latest WinZEC, 1.1.0, is a straight up build of zcash 1.1.0 with the patches to libsnark for Windows applied to the version of it that is now in the source tree for Zcash itself, rather than an external dependency.

My first tweets announcing the command line only zipfile of 1.1.0 and how to use it with previous versions of WinZEC, Zcash4win or the stock, upstream Swing Wallet, were sent before I realized I could just call my son and have him upload the build artifact from my machine at home. At which point I said “yolo”, had him do that, and announced WinZEC 1.1.0 from the bar I was en route to

Just to be clear, what are you referencing when you say no?

The previous poster in the thread who erroneously asserted that “the latest release of WinZEC wasn’t overwinter compatible”…sorry that that wasn’t clear, I am replying via email on my phone rather than the web interface to the forum, and had meant it to be a reply to THEIR comment, not yours!

@radix42

No problem and that makes sense. I replied to an older post so that was indeed correct (as WinZEC wasn’t Overwinter compatible at the time of the original post).

For the avoidance of any doubt - upgrade your WinZEC now to the latest release it’s Overwinter compatible!

Yes, and I did NOT change the client ID of this release from “MagicBean” to “BeanStalk”, as previous ports to Windows of mine did, as 1) I somehow broke the build when I made that change this time, and 2) it does NOT have deprecation disabled or any other non-default settings or changes compared to upstream ZcashCo linux releases, as some past releases of mine have had.

Sorry for the confusion, post removed :slightly_smiling_face:

hello, any solutions about this?

I have two machines running and one of them is currently doing that ( the newer one actually ), @phakov got around it a few months by launching it in a virtual machine, I think there may have been other solutions but I can’t remember, Ill look today

should i copy from this folder
C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Zcash “wallet.dat”
uninstall winzec, install it again and replace new *.dat file with the old one?

Uninstall wont affect those files (you should back them up anyway) and I tried that too but still no, most I could make of it is an OS conflict, I was able to get it going a while back but had to reinstall MSE and update fully so im not sure what the problem was
Edit- I didn’t delete the roaming folder when reinstalled so it didn’t force chain re-download which worked for me with the way you described, it just takes a week or so to redownload
(MSE Microsoft Security essentials)

i will back up wallet.dat, uninstall everything (program files and roaming), install from the beginning and replace *.dat file. I will keep you informed.

first try failed, i was getting the same error (daemon is taking longer than expected to start).
second try succeded after i disabled my antivirus (avast free edition).
after the synchronization finishes i suppose that my balance will be proper.

Are you re-downloading the chain?

yes, i am downloading the chain atm

yes, Avast and a number of other anti-virus WILL mess up WinZEC, command line zcash, and quite a few other coins…also, if you add an exception to Windows Defender for the %AppData%\Zcash\ folder things will go a bit faster

Thanks for your work on the wallet! Just updated to WinZec now. Can I come with a small feature request for a future update? I miss being able to minimize the wallet to system tray like the Bitcoin/LTC core wallets do. I hoped this feature was part of the new wallet, but I doesn’t seem so. This is absolutely no big issue, but if it is not too time consuming to implement, that’d be great!
