We are thrilled to announce that we have achieved our 6 milestone of 2024.
Below is our updated report on the Q2 proposal, we wish to thank the Zcash community. We know there is a big challenge up against us: the market, sentiment, and lots more. We just want to say we are strong and resilient, and we will win!
The report highlights Zcash Brazil’s June achievements, including the completion of Milestone 6. Key updates include the release of ZecWeekly editions in multiple languages, various community calls, and updates on Zcash services like Dizzy and ZecFaucet. James Katz dev Report: Zcash Brazil - June 2024
Many services maintained by James Katz depend on VPC hosting and API keys.
One new cloud computing server needed to be created.
All of these service payments are up to date. Currently, these services are:
– 4 Amazon AWS / LightSail instances (previously it was 3)
– OpenAI API key
Last month, nighthawk’s light wallet servers were shut down.
A lot of work and modification needed to be done in Dizzy’s backend to use the newer Zec. Rocks servers.
ZecFaucet also needed to be upgraded to the new light wallet servers.
ZecStats is a Discord bot for displaying Zcash stats. It has a halving countdown, which uses gRPC calls to fetch the latest Zcash block height. Which also needed to be updated to the newer Lightwallets servers.
A new command was also introduced for displaying zcash transaction information. This new command is powered by 3xpl API.
A new bot was created for the Zcash Global server. This bot Can fetch a Zcash Community Forum thread and sync it as read-only within a channel in Discord. This way users can check a few important threads directly in Discord.
Vito PR report, Vito is also helping zechub on media socials.
We started the month working on the survey in partnership with Jason McGee (ZCG) to collect information from the Brazilian community about the Development Fund, translating and collecting emails.
We are constantly helping Zashi’s research with ECC (@Peacemonger) by translating and sharing the survey to improve the product with the Brazilian community.
We continued the Weekly Calls & Weekly News in the space where we worked on Spaces with special guests.

Our team made a great presence on BlockchainRIO, which is Latin America’s largest and leading innovation hub for blockchain technology and digital finance. Their purpose is to be an open and dynamic ecosystem that brings together a diversity of key players from the tokenized economy and the real economy, focused on fostering the ecosystem of innovation, development, digital finance, and compliance, through education and business generation.

We’ve met two projects about ZK; Tea-fi and Nightly. We’ve discussed a lot about privacy and technologies. Nightly, by the way, recently implemented Halo2, and it was great to talk to someone who also knows about the topic.

We acted to promote and encourage the download of Zashi, always explaining to the community that it is an official product of the ECC.

We informed them about transactions and provided a complete onboarding about the pools and memos, giving away prizes to those who recognized the project and marking our presence at events with the team to maintain Zcash’s visibility in the crypto community in Brazil.
We connected with community members to hold spaces and talks such as:
Ripio - an Argentine company that facilitates the use of blockchain, custody, and payments (offramp and crypto card), and they have transparent ZEC and pix integration.
Rafaelando - who has a YouTube channel (crypto influencer).
Nightly - a community manager in Brazil, with whom we can hold spaces and talk about privacy.
Community org - a community focused on training to work with web3 communities, we’ve presented them with the ZecHub DAO.
HiveBlocks - an old partner, but they are implementing privacy features, which makes the partnership more interesting.
ABcrypto - a Brazilian crypto association that works together with the CVM (Securities and Exchange Commission). We had a fruitful conversation about privacy and changes in technology dynamics, with a lot of interest in the topic.
Strengthening the ties with long-standing partners such as CoinEx (a KYC-free exchange), Modular Crypto (one of the largest multichain educational projects in Brazil), NYM, and Secret.

James Katz dev Report: Zcash Brazil - July 2024

James gave support for new users on how to use our Dizzy bot, the bot for micropayments and transfers of f$zec inside Discord.
James started working on a new back end for Dizzy, based on ZingoLib. This update should be done for the next report.
ZecFaucet SSL certificates needed to be renewed.
The domain zecfaucet.com needed to be renewed, the domain was renewed for 1 year.
The bot for fetching Forum messages and posting them on Discord had a bug, It was properly fixed.
This month, James created a new service/tool for the Zcash ecosystem: ZcashMetro.io
ZcashMetro is a visualization tool for the Zcash mempool. Even though James did this in his spare time, It was only possible because of the Zcash Brasil grant. James is still asking for donations, for improvements on this tool.
The domain zcashmetro.io was registered for 1 year.
Vito PR report, Vito is also helping zechub on media socials.
We held the month in which we presented the plans for the Shielding Summit, in partnership with the ZK AV Club, we streamed the event with translation into PT for the Brazilian community.
As well as providing support for the event’s ZCLIP, guiding users, and announcing on the server.

We are thrilled to announce that we have achieved our 8 milestone 2024.
Milestone 8 - estimated completion date: 08/31/2024
Highlights:
- X (Twitter) account growth is approximately 24% this month.
- Introducing a new proposal and project called Zcash shielded window: Zcash shielded window
- Zcash Transactions Chart: A partnership with ZecHub to develop a configurable chart summarizing Zcash-shielded transactions, with spam filtering options.
- Dizzy Support: Progress was made in porting Dizzy’s backend to zingolib, but further testing is needed. ZecFaucet is currently using zingolib.
- ZecFaucet: Integrated with zingolib-wrapper.
- Zcash Forum <> Discord Bridge: ZKAV Club returned to its original Discord server, and a bridge was created with Zcash Global.
- ZcashMetro: Bug fixes and a new feature to display transaction types with a shield symbol were implemented.
- Community Engagement: Onboarding new members after the Blockchain Rio event, moderating the Zcash Brazil server, and forming partnerships focused on privacy. The server rewards cost $40-$60 per month.
- Zcine Zcash Media + Quiz: Educational events produced by Iogy and the author, including quizzes on privacy topics.
- Mini Workshop on Multi-Asset Wallets: A workshop presented by Iogy and the author, available on YouTube.
- Rio Innovation Week: Participation in a major tech event in Rio, where Zcash and privacy were discussed with the Web 2.0 market.
- The August 2024 Design Team Report for iogy/Mine details a month of active social media engagement focused on privacy, surveillance capitalism, and the Zcash community. The team used X, Instagram, YouTube, and Substack to share content, promote discussions, and engage the audience with visually appealing campaigns.

James Katz dev Report: Zcash Brazil - August 2024
Many services maintained by James Katz depend on VPC hosting and API keys.
All of these service payments are up to date. Currently, these services are:
- 4 Amazon AWS / LightSail instances
- OpenAI API key
Good progress was made porting Dizzy’s backend to use zingolib. But we still need some time to see how mature zingolib is. Currently, ZecFaucet is using zingolib, there were a few problems that need to be solved before continuing porting Dizzy.
ZecFaucet is using the zingolib-wrapper.
ZKAV Club moved back to its original Discord server and a bridge between ZKAV Club <> Zcash Global was created.
ZcashMetro had many bug fixes.
A new feature was introduced that displays transaction types by displaying a shield alongside each transaction.
The source space was made available on the Zcash Community Forum.
This month James is working in a partnership with ZecHub to create a graphical chart displaying Zcash Shielded transaction summary. The chart will be configurable to display Sapling and Orchard transactions, will have the option to filter spam, and will be able to plot various types of charts.

In this example, we can see monthly reports of transactions by pool, filtered and not filtered. (each bar represents a month’s worth of transactions)
In this example, we can see the cumulative number of transactions by type. What I like about this chart is that we can see how Sapling would grow linearly if it weren’t for the spam. This chart was created using weekly transaction numbers.

We started the month by taking the lead on the latest Dev Fund call to talk about this new development fund, answering questions hosted by the official Zcash X/Twitter account.

After the activation at the Blockchain Rio event, we are welcoming some new members to the community, onboarding them, and explaining the ecosystem.
Daily full-time updates and moderation on the Zcash Brazil server, supporting activities of other entities on the server such as Zechub, Zk AV Cluechub, Free2z, etc.
Making new contacts with other projects for possible talks and partnerships, focusing on privacy and its applications in each project.
I am covering the server rewards costs, which range from 40 to 60 USD per month.

@Michae2xl (Profile - Michae2xl - Zcash Community Forum): Current Zcash Brazil ambassador, Software Engineer, and Product Owner, known as Michae2xl on social media, has been 7+ years in the crypto space, worked for a DAO as a Community Manager in Brazil & Canada for almost 4 years, and built an NFT index, good expertise as a leader to building communities.
@vito: Victor is a Community/Community Manager he started his journey in 2019, being one of the main ones responsible for the creation and the growth of LBRY/Odysee in Brazil, the biggest video share platform with built-in blockchain in the world. He has also worked on projects for other companies like ShapeShift DAO, Giveth.io 1, Hive, LBRY Nomics, and many others. He joined the Zcash Brasil Team in May of 2022, being responsible for the Discord creation and working with Michael to grow the Zcash Ecosystem in Brazil and educate the community about Privacy and Freedom.
@Iogy: is a 30-year-old, tattooer, designer, and artist, who studied Advertising at college until the seventh period, his hobbies are technology, skateboarding, blockchain, and urban art. He is working to create a visual identity for Zcash Brazil, helping to develop the server banners and logo for social media. Actions focusing on engagement inside and outside discord such as creating POAPS for events and rewards, memes, emojis, giveaways, marketing actions, and event monitoring aimed at opportunities in general. Looking for good narratives and the best positioning methods to promote Zcash in Brazil, create a good image, and generate trust in the project.
@Minevg: Graduated in graphic design in 2006 at Lozuca Produção Interativa as art director, created graphic pieces for companies such as Exxon Mobile, BG, and Flamengo. Besides that Developed a project material reuse program that used leftover paper, adhesives, PS boards, and binding wires to develop new products. and Abbott, where she worked in the package development department. To Zcash have already created discord Brasil and Global banners, image compositions, and informative artworks, for Instagram and Twitter, POAPs, translated to Portuguese Oficial Zcash English materials to post on social media, created gifts to NFT Rio, Blockchain Rio, Bit in Rio events—new logo to Zcash Brazil and Zec Hub.
@e-zec: a community moderator who worked in many communities and now he is on the Zcash Brazil Community building activities and helping all entities found on the server

- Brazilian Design Fund: The Design Fund aims to enhance the visual and user experience aspects of Zcash, including wallet interfaces, branding, and educational materials. It focuses on creating a compelling and user-friendly Zcash experience.

Zcash Development Documentation in Portuguese: Creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation for Zcash development. This resource can serve as a valuable reference for developers looking to work with Zcash.

Past Work:
During the year 2023/ Q1 2024 with a contribution from the developer James Katz, which created many tools for education and engagement for the Zcash community in Brazil and worldwide.

James also received funding from the Zcash Foundation Minor Grants program, mainly to develop a Discord custodial wallet, jokingly called Dizzy (as in DZ – Discord Zcash). This bot was the first discord bot that allowed shielded transactions as deposits and withdrawals. Users can tip each other, play games like Hangman, and earn fractions of ZEC. This is a huge incentive for user engagement and is a huge success. James also developed a zingolib wrapper (GitHub - james-katz/zingolib-wrapper) that developers can use to integrate zingolib functionality in their code using node.js / javascript.
Future Plans:
For 2024 we have plans for the development of new ideas, support, and maintenance of the great work we have done so far.
All services and tools will be supported and maintained during 2024. Some services are costly and require great care to keep running.
Also, new ideas are on the horizon, few examples:
- Renewal of Dizzy Bot
Dizzy is the discord bot for Zcash tipping and airdrops. Zcash is evolving and Dizzy will need to be renovated. The backend portion of Dizy will be rewritten using James’ zingo-lib js wrapper.
We’re also planning to have an independent Developers Fund, to fund and incentivize community members, as such:
- Translation
- This could help translate Zcash documentation, translate wallets, and so on…
- Documentation
- Write documentation about the Zcash libraries and ecosystem, helping new developers find out about Zcash development. Fund
- We plan to have a fund of 5000 USD to be available as a bounty developers fund.
As expected, developing, hosting, and maintaining these projects aren’t cheap. The main costs are cloud computing hosting and API keys:
All discord bots - Costs for hosting the bots roughly add up to $80 ~ USD 100 / month. However, we plan to upgrade from Lightsail to a more robust AWS instance.
Brazilian Design Fund
Having a Zcash Design Development Fund provides a unique opportunity to support and enhance the design aspects of Zcash with visual experiences that facilitate interaction, engagement, and communication between community members. It involves applying design principles to make the community experience more enjoyable, functional, and effective.
Zcash social media marketing campaigns: Create design materials including banners, posters, and graphics for social media (Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Odisee, Discord, Podcast) and marketing campaigns that highlight the privacy advantages of Zcash and security. Edit audiovisual material created at events.
Help @James with the development of the Zcash Brasil website.
Support the growth of projects carried out in the Zcash ecosystem such as ZecHub and ZK Club as well as in their dissemination - (report attached)
Support at events and meetings: Integration and networking with other privacy-related projects, with a focus on welcoming new members to the community and new partnerships.
Event Gift Supplies: Create giveaways to promote Zcash at events. Research new gifts, which would be more efficient for the type of event and price quote.
The objective of the gift is to bring memories of the brand and the event, to build loyalty, engage, and satisfy the recipient.
Zcash User Onboarding Tutorials: Create videos and step-by-step graphical guides for beginners to learn about Zcash addresses, how to set up and use wallets, send transactions, and protect your privacy.
Presentation tutorials for ZecHub, ZF AV Club, and the entire ecosystem.
Educational Visual Materials: Create educational materials such as infographics, videos, and tutorials to help educate the public in Brazil about the benefits of Zcash and how to use it safely.
Privacy Awareness Campaigns: Fund projects to create campaigns that raise awareness about the importance of privacy in financial transactions and how Zcash’s privacy features can benefit users in Brazil.
Cryptocurrency Design Workshops: Organize design workshops and training programs in Brazil to empower local designers and developers to create innovative solutions for the cryptocurrency space.

Advocacy and Outreach: Advocate for Zcash within local and national forums, conferences, and discussions about blockchain technology, privacy, and financial innovation in Brazil.
Merchant Adoption Programs: Establish incentive programs to encourage businesses in Brazil to accept Zcash as a form of payment, providing them with training and resources for integration.
Awareness Campaigns: Launch marketing and awareness campaigns to inform the public about the benefits of Zcash and cryptocurrency usage, focusing on financial privacy and security. Vito is also committed to continuing his work in translation and article writing about Zcash in Portuguese, alongside his video editing tasks.
@Vito in particular is tasked with managing Zcash ecosystem relationships for the Brazil team. His duties include arranging meetings and community calls with both Zcash ecosystem participants as well as other outside protocols & teams, both in Portuguese and English, and maintaining collaboration with entities like ZCG, ZF, ECC, and others. Additionally, Vito is responsible for maintaining our Discord server, which involves adding new bots, organizing communities, and fostering growth in Zcash Global.
Moreover, Vito’s key objectives include close collaboration with entities such as ZecHub, ZF A/V (led by Ryan Taylor), and the Zcash Foundation (decentralistdan). He will contribute by running social media, producing/editing videos and newsletters, and providing content and workshops in both Portuguese and English.
@Vito is also committed to continuing his work in translation and article writing about Zcash in Portuguese, alongside his video editing tasks.
Community Involvement: The team will lead in organizing monthly activities and events within the community to ensure the continuous development and growth of Zcash protocol knowledge.
Monthly Educational Activities: The team will create a structured calendar of educational events focusing on privacy and the Zcash protocol. We will allocate a budget for community incentives, including competitions such as meme contests, monthly quizzes, poker, and logic games, possibly involving cryptography with James’ assistance.
We will also prioritize the production of translations for Zcash documents and content to cater to the Brazilian community.

bit sad to see Spanish community didnt get their grant approved. the community projects amounts are a lot lower imo compared to many other development stuff so im bit confused why ZCG is bit hesitant to support those lately

We have been working to promote Zcash since 2022. We started with bear marketing. At first, we earned what @michae2xl generously shared among four people from his Zcash Ambassador program. We studied a lot, dove in head first, believed in the project, and we are here every day, maintaining a constant growth (despite the difficulties). Some of you already know us by name, some personally. Here in Brazil, with each event we go to, we add more contacts and new partnerships, adopt wallets (in the last one, we promoted Zashi), and reinforce Zcash with promotional materials that we develop and distribute. I have heard from some people that we are the face of Zcash. One in particular even said that when he reads an article or watches a video related to privacy and ZKP, he remembers us and Zcash. This is because it is very common for people to wander around several projects, they go to the one that earns the most, not that there is anything wrong with that, everyone has a goal. The funny thing is that we really are the face of Zcash, today we are a group of 6 different people who came together, each with their own life, but with a common goal.

Well, since I was called to help moderate the zcash community, I’ve seen a lot of things change. We work hard to grow a community organically based on education that involves zcash. Nowadays, we are robust and I believe that organic community activity is necessary for a project to grow. Nowadays, we live zcash and we work full day to build an increasingly better and more educational environment for new users. I hope you see the greatness of all this.
